You can't really put a 1z motor in our cars, its like putting a 3s in a 7th gen. Its cheaper and smarter to put a 3s in the celica.

Its been done in a 5th generation. There shouldn't be much of a difference. Not to mention, its starting to become the "to do" swap in mr2's. Yes, it is cheaper to do a 3s swap, but thats basically a given. If you want a smoother ride quality with more realiable horsepower and torque. Then the 1mzfe would be a great swap. Haven't heard of a 6th generation with a 1mzfe, but I bet there are tons of people out there that would prefer that swap over a 3sgte.

I do recall there being a 7th generation with a 3s swap though. I bet he's loving it.

I think the 7A is a better engine to begin from simply because there are so many options. Mainly with head swaps from other engines in the A family. Considering this, one has the option of mixing and matching the 1.8l 7A bottom end with a series of hi performance G heads and pistons that can include superchargers, turbos, maf or map, VVT,  20v, ITB  or any combination of those. Not to mention good old fashioned, inexpensive, and domestically available 16v heads with choice of factory port sizes and even TVIS , if you care for that. With more options at hand, one has a better chance of building a unique powerplant that suits their tastes.

You can actually do head swaps on the 5s using the 3s heads. Its been done. Then you got the option of going V6 with the 1mzfe. To my understanding, most of the mounts match up. Not like I would really know anyways though.

AHHA! Please help me out! I've been desperatly searching for info on 5SGE and I can't find crap! I just figured the bottom end was over square and wouldn't see any gains so nobody bothered. Can you tell me where to get some info about this or contact those who have done it?

I could break it all down... but that'll get too long.

The ST is a better base for a high-powered n/a track car whether it be a swap or a build-up. The GT is a better base for a high-torque big power turbo set-up. The GT has the displacement advantage. It's a matter of tastes. Everyone will supply a different answer.

As for potential builds... an n/a 5SGE isn't gonna work out well because of the oversquared'ness' of the 5S block. It won't be able to spin efficiently to fully utilize the 'GE' head without some massive build-up. A 3SGE will actually be a more practical choice even with less displacement because it's a perfect squared design. A 7AGE build on the other hand, doesn't have as agressive of an oversquared design as the 5SGE so it can still hold revs fairly well due to it's fairly good rod/stroke ratio. That being said, a 7A turbo isn't gonna be abe to really match up psi for psi against a 5S turbo... but when it comes to turbocharging, the differences in gaps is a lot closer.

Overall... it's a matter of tastes... I build n/a cars so I'd choose an ST over a GT, unless I plan on a 3SGE or something.

how about the 5S-FE Vs. the 3S-FE? The 5S makes 130-135 hp, depending on year, and 145 lb... The 3S, on the other hand, makes 140 PS (138.08 HP) and 19 Kg (137.42 lb)... Thats a more logical comparason imo
