i went to the race track on saturday and it was import day so i decided to send my celica down a few times. heres my times

1st pass 17.392
2nd pass 17.247
3rd pass 17.279

i was told by a guy that knows alot about cars and drag racing that low 17s for a celica with only a few mods was pretty fast. he said that most celicas will run mid to low18's stock. i was like SWEET. i felt pretty good about that cause the guys that i went there with had a civic hatchback with amildly modified ZC 1.8 engine and he only ran a 16.893. that was his fastest time, all 4 or so other passes were slower then mine they were like 17.4 or 17.5. so that also made me feel pretty good. let me know what ya think, if they are slow or fast for the celica gt????

He was either jokin with you or on crack.

What mods have you done to your car? I think it's possible to hit 17s flat out stock.

I don't like 17s', 16s', or 15s'.

Is your car a 5spd or an automatic?
I ran my 94 st automatic in may of 2000 and ran a 16.8 on 18s. Do you know what the altitude of the track is(how high above sea level?). that can affect quarter mile times. Were you losing traction at all?

My best time at a 1/4 mile is a 16.37 and that was only with a muffler and a shortshifter

That's pretty slow... sorry to say.

I ran my old 94 ST stock around 16.9-17.2... after heavy mods I/H/E, S-AFC, complete port and polish head work, Underdrive pulley, I was able to pull mid-high 15's all day. With a 75 shot...I hit 14's...
My current 95 ST can hit low 16's with I/E and Underdrive pulley.

As far as the GT's go... my friend has an MR-2 that hit 16.0 stock... The Celica Gt's and MR-2's weight relatively the same, and have the same motor... so I would expect they can hit similar numbers...stock.

And about the Civic Hatch with a 1.8... which 1.8 motor? What is the ZC 1.8? All the Civic hatbacks came stock with either the D16 or the D15 (US spec). the 1.8 motors were B series motors, and when dropped in a Civic, they usually can haul some ass. Even the non-Vtec 1.8 B18's put out about 140 hp....

Yeah,
Even though im not a big fan of most hondas(nothing against them just so many), they are relatively easy to make quick. I have a ford probe gt right now, and even though it is a heavy car, it is still pretty quick stock. Celicas are still my first love though!

and last week I went to Winscosin Great Lakes dragway and I did my personal best after 3 trys

with time of "14.9" and reaction of .59 (best reaction is .50)

-cat-back exhaust, intake, headers, fuel injection, fuel pump, ZEX nitrous. RPM engage mod, bla bla bla.....

-god damn!!!! I have to show off my HONDA geeknes....

-what he is talking about is a "engine swap"....

-the engine is B18B
(don't forget B at the end 'cause you might mix it up with with GSR B18C)

-the B18B is 1.8 L but is does not have stupid V-TEC...

-the B18B has 143hp and 145torque w/ strong bottom end making it ideal for boost (TURBO)

heh...you're kind of an idiot...

http://www.acura-integra-vs-nsx.com/Integra-Specs.html

Lists the stock power specs for various B18 series motors. Vtec and non-Vtec.

Even the new civics hit these numbers... although I think their engines are off of the "D" series motors. The New Civic Si actually pushes near 160hp+ and 140 ft lbs of torque...that's a version of the new "K" series motor, same used in the new RSX-S.

and zigy:

140 some odd hp, correct. 140 ft lbs of torque, out of an n/a 1.8 liter motor... heh... no. They do have tough bottom ends tho... but not for boost because they also have unusually high compression ratios. With modification, they can boost nicely. That brings up the whole LS-Vtec ordeal.

I am an idiot?

ok look a*shole. that link that you gave is all for acura integras fag. h

here is a link to the honda homepage for a 2003 Civic EX.

Every family needs an overachiever, and the EX Coupe is the Civic's top standout. With a high-performance 1.7-liter, 127-hp VTEC® engine and 15-inch wheels and tires, the Civic EX Coupe is near the top of its class. Take the LX and add to that a power moonroof with tilt feature, an AM/FM/CD audio system with 6 speakers, an anti-lock braking system (ABS) and a driver's seat with manual seat height adjustment, and there's no doubt the Civic EX goes above and beyond the call of duty.

Manual Transmission with Front Side Airbags: $17,060.00

Automatic Transmission: $17,610.00

Automatic Transmission with Front Side Airbags: $17,860.00

here is the link for the civic coupes

click here then click on civic

dude you are not all there. seriously.. the least that you could've done was post a link to a civic place since i was talking about civics. but looks like you are the idiot not me or anyone else here.

and in zigy's defense...you say that there is no way a 1.8 liter naturally aspirated engine can produce 140 ft. lbs of torque huh?

well how about this. look at your post.

the new civic si pushes near 160+hp and 140 ft lbs of torque. again lets go back to the honda homepage. since i would suppose that they know more about it than you do. they say that the si only produces 160 hp at 6500 RPMS and 132 ft lbs of torque at 5000rpms. so um ? i dont get it i thought that it produces 160+hp and 140 ft lbs. and oh my gosh its a 1.8 liter engine. wtf? i thought those couldnt produce that much. damn man you really got everyone there.

also in case anyone here is as dumb as him please notice the sarcasm when reading this post.

The new Si motor is a 2.0... rolleyes.gif

the old 1.6 put like... 112 ftlbs of torque...

Anyways, I never said there's no way a 1.8 can...i said "no." It's very unlikely that a stock 1.8 liter motor, or even a slightly modified one can push that much torque, w/o some sort of forced induction.

sorry took so long to get back to my topic.

the civic hatchback has the jdm ZC 1.8

and with me supposedly not being able to shift worth a crap, no no no, thats not the problem. i can tell you a couple of problems with my car. i have lowered springs and brand new monroe sensatrac struts = most of the weight of the car is on the struts = which means that i had a lot of wheel hop off the line. also my reaction time was alot slower then yours zigy, so take another second off my reaction time to equal it to your time, well im guess im runnin a 16.2 then huh. also another problem is the previous owner rodded the crap out of it, he got too many tickets thats why he had to get rid of the car. another thing is that is fixed now was the long throw of the shifter. well now i have a short throw shifter. i wonder what my time will be now.

i dont know what the elavation is here but next time i go to the track ill find out for ya.

there is nothing wrong with my car either, its just been rode hard and put away wet by previous owner.

another thing, one of the mechanic wizzes in my town ask me my time, and he did some equation and told me that with my times, that my engine was pullin 127 HP. Let me think a sec but if i remember right the 2.2 5sfe had an output of only 135 HP. So being a 9 year old car with hot rod previous owners, that doesnt sound too bad to me. but since i custom ground my sturts to rid of wheel hop and with the short shifter my time will go down some. ill post it next time i go.

now i have my front end stiffened and lowered, shorter shifter and ngk wires, i hope to be in the low 16's or mid 16's. ill let you know my times when i get time to get my hiny down there

wow, a lot of misinformation in this topic.

zigy and Kwanza odviously know their Hondas, but there seem to be some misunderstandings here.

1) when zigy originally referenced the b18a/b he was mentioning it as a swap into a civic. yes its an integra engine, but its a common swap into civics, check out last month's SCC.

2) the new Si motor is a 2.0 and yes it is unlikely but not impossible for a factory 1.8 to put out 140 lbs or torque. I don't think its been done yet, but I'm sure we'll see it in the next couple years.

lets not fight over some words on the internet guys. odviously this was just a misunderstanding, so lets atleast have enough pride in ourselves to admit when we were wrong. wink.gif
