So I'm in DeKalb, Illinois (going to Northern Illinois University). This weekend, the river flowing through the town flooded from lots and lots and lots of rain. My apartment complex was completely surrounded by flood water. I'd say about 60% of the parking lots were knee deep in water. My car happened to be in this knee deep water.
So i pushed the car out of the water and into a dry parking spot. I got out all of the standing water (about 4 inches worth) and let it sit for a solid day. Yesterday I tried starting the car. It won't turn over. It cranks and cranks and cranks, but it won't turn over. I tried jump starting it, I checked the spark plugs/wires. Any other ideas as to what might keep it from turning over? I've been in my apartment since Thursday night because we weren't able to go anywhere outside the complex. I'm going insane!!! Thanks in advance for any input. -------------------- ![]() |

starter short out?? or corrosion on the terminals? Also you might wanna check your battery or see if there is any debree on any of the electrical components..my garage floods every so often and ive seen some pretty nasty crap come in with the water..also see if any of your fuses are blown too.

thanks for your help guys.
I checked the filter (dry and clean) I checked the battery (some corrosion on the + terminal. cleaned it) Unplugged the wires and checked them. They look good. Plugs, I don't have a single tool up here with me to check those. Was able to get the distributor cap off...it actually had a little bit of oil in it. I'm thinking its a bad seal in the distributor. I was able to get it to turn over this afternoon, but it would only run on about 100 rpms and die as soon as I gave it throttle. I have a tow truck coming in the morning to take it to a shop. I need it driveable so i can go home this weekend. I'll post what the problem was when I get a call from the shop tomorrow. Thanks again -------------------- ![]() |
