What the hell is wrong with people? Is the 6th gen so unpopular? I'm loonking for Pistons and Camshafts particularly for the Beams engine. Does anyone know if anyone makes pistons or camshafts for beams? thnx |

Check out Toda and Jun parts. I understand that you can make a 3sgte from the 3SGE and looking @ some work done on sge engines, that is possible. I must warn you that if you go to toda ot jun, the cams will not have vvti. But not important if going to 254 or even 264 cams. Pistons for the change will be for turbo. My advice is to prepare a turbocharge engine. I understand that the block is the same and there is no difference in strenght. So look @ my profile for a complete engine list for what you wnat to do. Please also look @ my http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=662&st=0 for more details. As always, you have a beautiful engine. You just do not know it yet. Do some reading, get some magazine and over time, you will have the knowledge you are currently looking for. -------------------- West_Minist

Thnx man, i know there's enough things for turbocharching, enough to make it a beast
![]() Oh one more thing, what's the difference between the beams vvti of the celica and the beams dual vvti of the altezza? does it have to do anything with the camshafts? I'm asking cuz i was wondering if any Aftermarket parts could be used from the dual vvti engine on mine, although i doubt it ![]() This post has been edited by Beams: Sep 27, 2003 - 9:02 AM |

The real reason the Beams doesn't have many mods... wasn't because the 6th gen celica isn't popular...but it's because the Beams is simply a very rare engine. As far as pistons go... the Beams pistons are already very performance oriented... I forget exactly, but I think the Beams has a compression rating of 11:1... already much higher than the 3rd gen 3sge... The easiest way of upping the compression ratio is to prep the head... shave it.
As far as cams go... you can always do a re-grind...but you'll lose VVTi as west_minst said. You'll probably gain a better top end, but typically, if you do a very agressive grind, the lowend department will be very harsh... unsteady idle... pinging and knocking possibly... Now... for the disagreement part... Don't go turbo on the Beams. It's such a beautifully designed engine, that was not built for a turbo. Its block is hardly as strong as the 3SGTE block and its very high compression ratio will make it very dangerous to run even modest levels of boost. The difference between the Altezza beams and the Celica/MR2 beams is the VVTi design. The celica/mr2 has VVTi on only the intake lobes, while the Altezza has it on both the intake and exhaust. It's not just the cams that are different, I believe. I would imagine much of the electronics and the heads are both slightly different... As stated, since you can get toda or Jun pistons or the full works, you will not be turbocharging on 11:1 compression.
Still, you can still turbocharge on that, once you jeep the boost low. But I would advice on the jun kits. -------------------- West_Minist
