I was just sitting here pondering just now and i wondered. I would like a louder sounding exhaust, but i dont have the money right now to take the muffler off that i have now and get a new one (gonna do a cat back when i do that ) so my question is what would be the pros and cons of unbolting any part of the exhaust system underneath. I know a friend of mine did it with his turbo miata he is running with open headers, but my car is of course N/A and in doing that i would lose all my torque and god knows what else. I was thinking of unbolting after the resonator or something similar to that but i dont know if that would affect back pressure or not. So is this just a cheap idea or a total waste of time? if so ill just wait lol.

NO!

That's not a good idea because looseing the bolts to make it "louder" will eventualy lead to things breaking and falling down in the street. If you're driving down the freeway this can turn REALLY dangerous. kindasad.gif Plus, it's just a poser mod. And that's just not cool. Not to mention the level of volume you'll get from removing it can make it illegal in some/most states; and no one here will sympathize for you when you post up with a ticket wink.gif Most of the Moderators will even allow a small amount of flaming before closing those threads, and never delete the hurtful, mean (yet truthful) things said laugh.gif

This thread will turn into really quickly frown.gif

EDIT: in California it's VERY illegal.

Ok lol thanks for the advice im gonna get the catback i might actually have the money for it after all. Real quick question on the other exhaust thread it says from the cat all the way back is that correct i always heard that no performance gains are seen unless the cat is switched to a high flow or deleted completely in exchange for as straight a pipe as far back towards the headers as possible

Your stock cat is a highflow cat [At least my '99's stock one was]- it's just tiny sized pipe that's the real problem. You'll feel things on the butt dyno and in the accelerator pedal [Throttle response] - be happy with that. Just do it - you'll like it. wink.gif
