Mom's crazy overprotective. She "lost" my birth certificate so I couldn't get my permit. Finally convinced her to let me get a job; they closed after 3 paychecks. So, I have no money, no job, and now no ride to get to a job if one of the freaking 100 places I put in an application at ever calls. And dad told me if I kept good grades and stayed outta trouble, he'd get me a car. I had a $2000 budget for my 3.7 gpa. So I don't exactly feel spoiled or anything here... But yea, I was dumb for racing it. A. I doubt that your mom is crazy overprotective. B. you have no job. Why are you wanting to spend all of your parent's money on beefing up THEIR car that you broke by racing? C. In case you haven't heard, we're in the middle of a recession. There are few places that are hiring. Keep looking and once you find a job, save up your own money if you want to turbo it. D. $2000 for a 3.7? you're so lucky. /rant -------------------- '99 Celica GT - Sold

But yea, I was dumb for racing it. A. I doubt that your mom is crazy overprotective. You're not living this kid's life, so don't assume. I grew up with a pretty overprotective mother myself, and have seen it with others the type of mom who "lost" the birth cert. so the kid couldn't get his/her license. This really does happen. I'm not saying one way or the other in this case, but don't assume you know this kid. QUOTE B. you have no job. Why are you wanting to spend all of your parent's money on beefing up THEIR car that you broke by racing? If he has $1500, whether he earned it or his parents gave it to him, don't you think that's between the OP and his parents? Again - I just think this is really judgmental. We're not living the OPs life, he is. He's a dumbass for racing his car, yes. But cut the kid some slack until you/we know the details. QUOTE C. In case you haven't heard, we're in the middle of a recession. There are few places that are hiring. Keep looking and once you find a job, save up your own money if you want to turbo it. He said his mom won't let him get another job (?). Agreed though - replace the 5s w/a used one for a few hundred bucks, and boost it. QUOTE D. $2000 for a 3.7? you're so lucky. sorry homeboy, and thanks griff
I'm not living your life, I don't know your situation and I don't know if your mom is overprotective or not. I was just thinking that to a 16yr old, your parents may seem very overprotective, however, to a 20, 30, 40 yr old, the perspective may change. please disregard my previous post. I guess I just have a case of the Mondays. Too bad its Wednesday. This post has been edited by jimmykay: Apr 22, 2009 - 11:59 AM -------------------- '99 Celica GT - Sold

I couldn't agree more with your statement about what seems overprotective at 16 seems like just good common sense at 30 etc. Damn growing up SUCKS. So do Mondays on Wednesdays. Crap it's only WEDNESDAY? Sheesh. Let's go have a drink somewhere until it's Friday. ![]() -------------------- ![]() |

my best advice is to just be patient and wait until you have more money to play with. even with the cheapest power option, 2k is really cutting it close. Not only that, once you get more power in the car, there are more things that will require maintenance, or will become more likely to break. the car will become expensive to maintain.
So just wait until you have a steady job and could afford to replace worn wheel bearing, or a broken axle, or a cracked radiator....etc all these random things will come up when you build your motor, or swap one out completely. good luck and be safe, dont go three digits on the freeway anymore. |
