Well... I got my first Celica when I was 16. I had a truck for the first 8 months I had my license. Single cab short bed '99 Dodge Ram, 5.9 liter V8. That thing was BA. But I never really wanted it or it's 12 miles to the gallon. So my parents sold that and bought my first Celica, a '96 ST auto from a retiring schoolteacher that my stepmom worked with. She kept that car immaculate- oil changed every 2,500 miles, detailed once a week, door dings fixed within a week. That was her 3rd Celica, and she only sold it to buy a convertible Solara when she had grandchildren on the way and decided a car seat in a Celica was impractical. I went through a bad phase with that car for a month or two... The pictures will explain it.

Don't worry, I got rid of the underglows in a hurry. I was young and stupid then tongue.gif So another couple of months went by uneventfully, and then school started back up. I had to park near some bad drivers. One day, I checked my mirrors and started backing out. In the time it took me to let off the brake and turn my head from my mirrors to look out my driver's side window to make sure nobody would be driving through behind me, a girl that parked behind me floored it and got out in the aisle, and I backed right into her in my shiny 3L2 Celica. Did $125 worth of damage to the paint, no biggie.

With my nice little Autozone exhaust tip there... It actually looked decent on the car.

Saved up the money to get it fixed and made an appointment. My appointment was for a Monday to drop the car off at the body shop. The Friday night before that, I was driving home. I had 3 hours to make a 5 minute drive, so I was in no hurry. I was driving about 45, watching out for deer. But the problem is I was watching the field to my left rather than the yards to my right. There was a deer lurking in a group of trees in one of the yards. I owned that car 5 months to the day when this happened. This was 1 mile from my house.

My dad is an avid deer hunter. He was pretty upset about the car until he saw the deer laying in the ditch. Then I was pardoned and he made me load the deer up in his truck.

That twisted the frame and blew both airbags. $7,200 in damage. We could have gotten it fixed but decided not to when we were advised that unibody cars are never the same after a wreck like that. So we sold that to the insurance company. I ran a CARFAX on it a couple of months ago, and it has been rebuilt and is being driven in Chicago now. So we drove 3 hours to buy the only decent Celica we could find after waiting for 2 months. That brings me to my current black '98 GT 5-speed.

I started a new job in this car, and a year ago next month, a deer broadsided me in the middle of town. Who gets hit by a deer in the middle of town?!?!?!

$3,250 in damage this time. There was more damage than you see. The window wouldn't stay rolled up, the mirror was jacked up, and the fender had a few dents too. So while that was in the shop, I found out about a '96 ST auto coupe, still running, for $400.

Wrecked, but rebuildable. So I snatched it up, intending to rebuild it, which with estimates I got from the FS thread, I could have done for $1,000. Then I would have had a beater Celica to get me through college and a nice one for the weekends. But I decided I didn't want to pay insurance on 2 Celis, so I parted the coupe out for a hefty profit.

Got my black Celi back, all fixed up and good as new. The last few months, not too much has happened... until tonight. I deer jumped out of a cornfield at me. One that put all the others I've hit to shame. This sucker was huge. Dad would be proud tongue.gif lol. But I didn't kill this one. Barely even hit it. I just got the back legs, which sent it flying through the air into the ditch, with me laughing the whole time. It's bad when I've hit so many deer that I laugh about it.

The bumper is a little messed up, but nothing major. I feel kinda bad for my cars. They go through a lot for me frown.gif I think I need to move to the city. Oh wait... I hit deer there too!!!!!!!

Hey Daniel, that is a pretty interesting read my friend. Quite a history. If only love stories could be as strong between man and woman. To me, in my book, this thread itself is epic. Keep this thread around, because my boy Daniel is going to making that featured ride page and you might want to use this information when you question. wink.gif

Hahaha I doubt that I'll ever make "featured rides," but it'd be nice to one day have a better than average Celica. And I hope Chris comes back soon to fix some of the problems with the server, or else I'm worried that 6gc might not be around long enough for anyone but me to see my car when it's finished.

Tell me about it. I hit one in my stepmom's Exploder before I ever got my license, but that wasn't too bad. I just about hit that exact same deer later in my truck, but I never saw it again after that. Rumor has it one of my neighbors got it during shotgun season. I need to go check it out. Then I totaled my red Celi, and this is the second deer I've hit in this car. I hate these things. There are way too many of them where I live.

I've never seen a kangaroo in person since I don't really go to the zoos, but I'd imagine they could do just as much damage as a deer. The road going out to my house isn't curvy, it's just a lot of hills. And in the last year, the Amish have moved out there, so I have to watch out for deer and buggies on the other side of hills. But the damage to the red car, I got off easy. I was only going 45. I've seen a deer do a lot more to a car.

...I'm gonna go ahead and guess that you didn't have your truck 98 months before you turned 16 and that it's simply a typo?

Crappy luck guy. Good thing you made it out okay this time...so what's the status on the damage? New bumper, body work, repaint? If so, go for the GT-4 hood and bumper. biggrin.gif

kangaroos can get huge and do a lot of damage but not nearly that bad, that i know of haha. I hit a wallaby rather than a deer so I was lucky, I still needed a new bumper but thats all it did, It just jumped out on the corner and I hit the brakes after I hit it, it was that quick.

not to one up you but my total count for deer is 5... in 3 years... four incidents... i hit two at once... and i even had one ram my black auto while i was parked at a stop sign... look in my profile... the red celi... that was started by a deer... a deer blew out my tire sending my car into a skid over an embankment into a tree... the 3l2 code definitely attracts deer... i think you and i must wear the same cologne smile.gif

Cali, my red Celi HAD deer whistles lol. You can look in the pictures, see where there is a muddy hoofprint in the bottom corner of my grill? That's where one of them was. Until that little incident.

Spolski, that sucks about your Celi frown.gif but you've got the Mini now, and I've heard those are a lot of fun. I've never had the opportunity to ride in one though frown.gif

SwissFerdi, it DEFINITELY wasn't 98! It was only 8. I actually saw that typo a couple of days ago, but forgot to do anything about it. Which is strange because I've changed the title of this thread like 15 times already. I don't need a new bumper or anything. All that happened was a support bar that runs along the top of the bumper got a little bent, and I was able to bend it mostly back into place. But the bumper is pulled about 3/4 of an inch away from the driver's side high beam headlight, and I can't quite figure out why. But I'm eventually going to take the bumper off and repaint it anyway, so I'll just figure it out then. In the meantime, suggestions of why it's like that are welcome biggrin.gif

And Pittfire, holy s***... I thought I hit a lot of deer!! At least mine have all been simple deer collisions, no chain of events starting from the deer. But you know exactly how I'm feeling. I just want to break every gun and wildlife conservation law ever written and take an AK-47 out in the woods and have fun. But I think I'll leave that to my deer-hunting dad. Seriously, I've wondered why he gets up at 4 in the morning and goes and sits out in the woods and freezes to death, often coming home without seeing anything just so he can kill a deer. That's not for me. I do it in style. I have a radio and a heater and all kinds of good stuff with me when I kill deer. At least I'm comfortable thumbsup.gif

Hey dude, It's cool that nothing stands in the way of you owning a Celica, and a 1998 model sounds really good. Of all the Celicas I've seen, it's always the same story, 1994/95 models are beat up, have the mileage of a taxi, squeeky brakes, noises & rattles, and totally lack fuel efficiency, throttle response & power. 1996/97 models are pretty good but tend to have minor battle scars, 1st signs of wear and tear aswell as being due for the 1st major service. 1998+ models are generally immaculate and have motors that have just been "run in," so well done on your final outcome.

My story is all too familiar with yours, Just replace Deer for Idiot and/or Intoxicated Drivers and there it is.

Sadly, the 94/95 observation is true. However, there's obviously a certain following to these cars, so I'm sure there is a cherry 6GC to be found ANYWHERE if you look long enough.

I was lucky enough to get one that was low-mileage and in pretty good condition...and still is. biggrin.gif

Its time for vengeance, 6gc.net deer hunt!

Lol, but seriously man, that is quite a damn story. I can only imagine deer jumpin out of nowhere while driving. Here in Southern California you don't have deer but teenage girls with Audis.

Delusionz, I see you've got a GT4 now? Haha looks like you're much better off than I am! Yeah, it's a '98 model, but it's been a little more than run in. The guy who owned it before me drove it like there was no tomorrow and tried fixing everything that broke himself. So here I am, two and a half years later, still trying to fix all of his mistakes. It's slowly coming along, since I'm only 19 and working for minimum wage, but it's getting there. I'm just about done with small crappy repairs and moving on to bigger and better stuff.

SwissFerdi, you're just rubbing it in now... Lol

Nics, that sucks man. Hopefully it didn't do too much damage to your car.

xs94st, I've got 25 acres and access to hundreds more. Grab a shotgun and come on down to Southern Illinois... There are plenty of deer to be had. And uh... teenage girls, you say? Audis? That would give me an excuse to get some phone numbers.... and I do like Audis... I'm moving to Cali biggrin.gif

Yeah, I'm an avid shotgun user, and Illinois isn't that far. I'd be glad to remove a couple of those pesky deer. We'll take your car and drive around looking for them, seeing as though your car is deer bait.
