Ok, today going to school, a spark plug shot out and did a good number on my hood. Got a nice bump as a momento to scar my car and never forget this day. I got the problem situated, but now when I drive, my vision is obstructed by that nasty bump. For a dinger such as that, any recommendations on how I can fix this? I wouldn't mind so much if it was dented in, but it is dented out. Or am I seriously going to have to cough up another hood in the future and suffer until then? It's about a size of what a spark plug would do, no bigger than a dime in fully diameter in a convex manner.

knock it flat and get it painted or buy a new hood, try a paintless dent removal specialist
although i'd be worried about why a spark plug managed to get free of the head This post has been edited by Tom_SS2: Aug 31, 2009 - 3:32 PM -------------------- ![]() |

I hope the heat helps. It got free because it wasn't sitting right. I dunno why it never sat right, it has been like that ever since I owned the car, even after I changed the plugs. However after this, I got it in right, it didn't strip anything (Thank GOD) and now the wire part actually sits flush (which it never did before). It was ticking a bit because of that, and now no tick. So yeah... I would like to be able to order a front clip one day, but for now, I want just to adjust that dent. So do I just hit it with a mallet? I am not sure what is the best thing to use on this aluminum hood. -------------------- 91 MR2 Turbo SW20, 92 MR2 Turbo SW20, 95 Celica GT ST204

Not sure what your options are with the GT-four hood - as it's aluminum and much more delicate than the stock monster hood.
I would look into having it knocked out by a professional, but it might cost you less to buy another hood. So go out and get a couple quotes. And post some pictures! I want to see the carnage. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money

But oh well, I am too focused on a swap to even bother thinking about replacing it. I can wait until it comes time to paint it or something. Same thing happened to me. I never thought to check the plugs when I bought the car, just to make sure they were screwed in tight. So the plug shot out of the second cylinder from the left, but lucky for me it hit that skeleton thing under the hood. It still did a number to the hood. All I can think of to do is lay something down on the hood, some kind of blanket or something, and try to push it back down. I wouldn't forcefully beat it, since then you could put several downwards dents in your hood. Sounds like you've got the right idea though, trying to focus on the swap before a tiny little ding. Hope you get it lined out though!

Sorry to hear about that. I am no body man but I think it would be a terrible idea to take a mallet to your gt-4 hood. Just be very delicate if you try to persuade the bump back since it is aluminum. I have heard of heating up things and then putting dry ice on them but I would reseach that.

It will cost over $1000 for a C-One hood. As he has the GT-Four front he can't use a regular carbon fiber hood.

![]() ![]() ![]() And then I tried to fix it ![]() I am just going to get a another car to daily drive if I decide not to swap this year, so I can park my baby and take my time on her, and not exposing her to the dangers of daily driving because it can end up costing me more as the parts are harder to come by. A car I can daily drive as a later project, without fear of minor damages and of course.... another beautiful, reliable TOYOTA. Possibly a N/A MR2. I understand you wanting to fix this, but your vision is obstructed by that ?
Alluminum is tricky to fix, so take it to a proffesional, it's fixable, and if you shop around, it can be done for a decent price. Take into account that the hood most likely will need to get painted after is fixed. -------------------- ![]() |

one of the downfalls for having an aluminum hood is that it's easily dented. it hailed here one night and even the little pieces of ice will leave its mark on the hood. it can be repaired but yea it will need repainting too.
