I've got an ST and as you know, the rear brakes are drums. I want to swap them out for discs and I'm going to go junkyard hopping soon and I know the GTs have discs, so what would I have to pull from the GT to make the brakes work on my ST?

There are a TON of threads about this. I made one myself. But here is a very well written write up. I know that GriffGirl has also done it recently.

Good luck!

(Don't forget the e-brake cable.)

Alright this will be a big help, but how do I pull them off of a GT if I find what I'm looking for in a junkyard? And how will I know if they're ABS? I'm pretty new to the whole mechanics stuff but I'm hoping to learn

I just finished my disc brake swap last weekend, but i have a question. How many lb should the spindle be torqued back onto the knuckle? The tutorial only states tighten by hand, but i don't want to risk having any bolts loosening on me while driving.

so ABS brakes dont work in the conversion?

I want to confirm this. I found a GT with ABS at the junkyard and want to do the swap. Anyone actually tried and succeeded/failed at this?
And if so, what is the reason they dont fit? It looked to me like they were exactly the same, except a pair of wires coming from a grommet in the top of the wheel well to control the ABS unit.

Got the disc brakes on. The ABS has no bearing on whether they will work or not. You can just use the ST hub and bolt the brake assembly behind it. The brakes are the exact same.
Although, i ended up using the drum pads that came on them because the pads i got at autozone were too thick? The physical part size was the same, but the rotors wouldnt fit over the thicker pads...
We may want to update the how-to.

I'm at Just Brakes to check the drums if they need replacing. Just for kicks, I asked them if they'd do the rear disc conversion for me since I'm at college living in dorms and I have nowhere to take apart my car. They said that I need more than just the internal drums, rotor, caliper, pad, and e brake lines. They said I'd need to replace the ABS pump and master cylinder, etc. in order for the right pressure to be distributed throughout the brakes. It'd be great if someone could prove/disprove this because I've looked through a few drum to disc conversions and not once did I see anything about ABS pumps or master cylinders. Thanks guys.
