I just bought a 94 Celica GT. I love the car, but it beeps whenever you open the door, even if the key is not in the ignition. It is quite annoying for two reasons: (1) the beeping gets old and (2) I have to use the key to lock the door. On occasion (maybe once every 20 times) it won't beep when I open the door. I happily lock the car from the door switch before shutting it and hope that the problem is over... but it's not.

Any help in determining the cause of the problem would be greatly appreciated. And yes, I would still like it to beep when the keys are in the ignition. I already read the post about getting it to stop all together.

I had an '83 honda prelude that did that for a while, I found it was a small button getting stuck inside the ignition. I sprayed some wd-40 on the key and a very little bit in the ignition hole, and ran the key in and out a bunch of times, and it never did it again. Also, even if you have an on off switch on the alarm itself, turning that off won't enable to always look the door, the button in the ignition is what tell the doors to unlock so you can never look your keys in the car if it they are in the ignition

Barterj has it. To test it, just jam your key back in, maybe wiggle it around to get that button loose. Your car still thinks the key is in the ignition. Therefore it won't let you lock the doors with the in cab lock button. (That's supposed to prevent you from locking the keys in the ignition) Next time it does it, re-insert the key and pull it back out. It'll stop eventually. Then WD-40 if it's still doing it persistently.
