my friend bought a 94 5S-FE Celica GT-S 5speed with a blown motor

he's attempting to swap in a 3S-GTE
could anyone tell me what he needs other than the motor

will the 5S tranny bolt up to the 3S-GTE?
what else does he need other than the computer?
are the subframes the same? any needs for custom mounts if the 3S-GTE mounts are available?

any input would be much appreciated biggrin.gif

the person i bought my 94 gt from was going to put a 3s-gte in, and from what he told me, it would need a computer(like u stated), a new engine harness, he never said anything about engine mounts, but i would change them just beacuse they could prolly use a change, deffinaly need a better clutch, and thats about all i remember him telling me. i will email him and ask for you if you would like.

wow this forum is awesome. thanks for the fast response!!!

even though i don't own a celica i share the same love for yotas.

just a quick introduction, i'm actually a camry man. I own a 94 Camry Le which was originally 5S-FE with auto tranny
I swapped for a 3VZ-FE V6 with 5speed from another donor car last year and I've been in heaven since.
here's my cardomain

engine harness will come with the 3S-GTE when it's bought so other than the harness the ECU and mounts are the rest.
before i ask too much noob questions, i'll start reading

^ No. A real GT-4 is worth money. A swapped USDM Celica is worth the same as with the stock engine it came with, more or less. Unless you sell to an enthusiast, a dealership won't give you sh!t for it.

my friend runs 3 shops, mechanic shop, body shop and detailing shop. he picked up the gen6 for 1k and is looking for some fun with it and sell within 2 years for 5~6k after a paint job and 3s-gte swap

am i correct that the most popular 3S motor used for the swap is the one from the gen5 alltrac model and just bolt it up to the 5S 5speed tranny?

5-6k? doubt it, if he would do the AWD conversion too, maybe. ST205 can be imported to canada nowadays.

a real GT4 imported to canada costs around 8K~10K

5~6k wouldn't be a problem since the car will have a spectacular paint job and fresh interior

i just really want to dig into the technical aspects of the swap.
Engine can be purchased easily and the harness, ecu comes with it

other than that, i know the mounts fit the subframe but holes needs to be drilled.
other than that there are parts like AFM, ignition coil, sensors etc..that needs to be purchased...
could anyone list everything except the Engine/Harness/ECU part of the swap?

well i was told this.. IF you have a GT model, all the hoses on the stock 5sfe motor will transfer over straight to the 3rd gen 3sgte. you will need to do a little rewiring when transfering the 5s to the 3s. if you have the complete 3s you can just swap the hoses over from the 5s, bolt the tranny up and throw it in the car lol. easier said then done lol

im in the process of doing my homework on the swap bcuz i have bought a 3rd gen 3sgte myself and im tryin to gather as much info as i can b4 starting the swap. this is a very helpful forum with TONS of answers

^so your saying the mounts for the 5S will transfer over to the 3S no problem
and the bulk of the work is wiring?

IIRC the canadian GT-S is simply the US GT model.
I will be able to find the JDM GT4 motor for the celica no problem.
I've already found a 94~97 GT4 3SGTE with the black TMIC that says CELICA in white letters.
if that is the correct motor and 90% of the parts..I think we'll start tackling this project.

to my understanding, yes. i kno the mounts will swap over and there is a little rewiring done for the harness to connect. you will need to buy a custom clutch (Dr. Tweak makes them) i was recommened to get the stage 4 clutch from him and im buyin the ultra leight weight steel fly wheel as well, you dont have to, u can simply resurface the flywheel at a machine shop but a leight weight flywheel will help to motor reach higher rpms faster bc it spins more easily, idk if the way i said that makes sense lol
