Why would you use 0w40? It says 10w30 right on the oil cap. This isn't some super advanced, direct injected engine, it's a run of the mill DOHC 4 cylinder.

P.S. - don't use synthetic either. No point.

Yeah,
I got 125 k miles on my, about 200 000 km and I run 10W30 Quaker State, Castrol or what is on sale. All non-synthetic. I also do not use crap Oil like AutoLab or some other really low no name cheap brand.

You are in Europe so stick to some brand name oils in Europe like Castrol or ELF etc.. 10W30 should be fine for that climate.

it can run 5w-30 fine as well, my 7a started easier in cold weather with 5w-30 than 10w-30.

in the winter we get down to -20C and during the summer up to +40C.for the past 3 months i could notice a decrease in petrol consumption like 1%-2% and the big difference is that my celica is not burning oil anymore.when i used 5w-30 mobil 1 i used about 1 litre of oil at 5 000 miles.anyway all 5w 30 or 10w 30 are synthetic oils.thank you for your reply guys!!

Wrong and wrong.
First 0w40 is good for older engines, creates less wear because of thicker liberation.
Synthetic has been proven to last low mile motors longer and helps maintain high mileage motors.

I used 0w40 from Castrol only once and I didn't like the way the engine was running. So I got back to the 10w40 from Castrol (Magnatec, half synthetic) and everything seems ok.

The question is: what kind of Celica GT are we talking about? Because the european/japanese GT means 3SGE engine, 2.0 16v 125/129kw (170-175 hp). I think that the US GT has a different engine... and probably different oil.

Can someone post here what the cap recommends? I believe I used 10w40 when I changed my oil last time (mobil1 synthetic). My cap is aftermarket, and I was not the one to replace it.

5w30 for colder weather and for hotter weather 10w30 I change mines when the temps change for best protection.

i have the american model 2.2 5sfe GT. i know it is marked 5w 30 on the oil cap but in 1997 i do not think 0w 40 was invented. I also used oil additiv with ceramic particles but i do not use it anymore becouse i know castrol uses additives .My car has 85 0000 miles and the only problem that I have with it is when i start my engine-i have to keep my foot on the gas or it is going to stop.I think it must be the idle control valve
