What would be the best shell to start a drift car?

toyota, the ae86 but is this just because its a legend?

not a supra, cant afford one. too expensive. and the older ones are too heavy.

also not a convertible. for obvious reasons.

Ae's don't have enough power to be competitive unless you sr or equivalent swap them, IMO.

S chassis is easiest, cheapest, bossest, again IMO. There are conversion kits for any swap you'd want: LSx, sr, rb, 1jz, 2jz, ca18, ka24, old chevy 350 if that floats your boat, etc. Tons of aftermarket support. TONS!!

I'm personally going to build a 1jz s14 for drifting, just gotta do a couple other things in life real quick.

A S chassis with a simple sr20det or rb with stiff coilovers. Easy.

sorry but Supra MK II is the lightest of the Supras

MK II
Curb weight 1,361 kg (3,000 lb

MK III
1,537 kg (3,389 lb) (manual)
1,595 kg (3,516 lb) (automatic)

MK IV
1,460 kg (3,219 lb) (non-turbo)
1,550 kg (3,417 lb) {turbo}

that said, the very best car to start drifitng is the cheapest one you can get, try to find one that someone elses has gotten somewhat ready for drifitng for very cheap, chances are this car wont survive the learning process ( assuming you take this serious ) so just find something cheap to learn on, then you can look around for whatever you would love drift on.

if I was to do it, I would focus on an MK II, P type, they come with LSD, 5mge with around 180 which is enough power to get the tires lose but not too much to become an issue with a beginner, and if for some miracle I dont crash the car or dont bend the chassis banging it on every wall lol, a 2jz fits right in.

Stevenson, gtf off wikipedia..You are right, but those numbers are grossly off.

Supras=not drift cars.....Drift cars IMO are usually:
-Pretty lightweight(under 3k)
-Have appeared in Initial D
-Have a large drifter support of people to tell you your jdm sticker and yellow fogs are mad tyte y0
-Able to be pushed to their limits without fear of hurting the car(ie beater)
-Aren't luxury cars to start with(supra IS, weather you think so or not, 240sx are not)
-Obviously rwd and NA

Suprakid, howcome you say an NA car would make a better drift platform?
Just curious.

Throttle response is the only thing I can think of. Most cheap drift cars (i.e. 240SX) benefit from a turbo. Breaks the tires loose faster.

S chassis would be my ideal starting point.. they're inexpensive, lightweight, decent wheelbase, low center of gravity (especially on coilovers), lots of aftermarket support and an abundance of spare parts for cheap which you'll need since you'll literally be abusing the **** out of it.

just need to find one with a SR swap and LSD smile.gif

people blow motors because they are retards, rotaries have been proved time and time again in both WRC and 24 hour le mans. The key is to keep the oil and water temps cold, and open the exhaust fully. uncle had an rx7 and drove it year round with no problems. All it takes is a little research and its fantastic. I understand many people dont like them but they are great motors and are just as reliable as anything else.

Any S chassis nissan

Import a JZX90 or JZX100 mark II or chaser, already: 1jz-gte, manual and lsd.

Lots of people in aus drift KE70 corollas (or ae71), but your in the same situation as an AE86. The chassis is fine, but the suspension needs a lot of work to be viable. And as far as the engine goes dropping in a 4a-gze or a 4a-ge 20 valve with a turbo would do. Or a CA, SR, 3s, 1j, 2j, RB, LS1

would a mki mr2 be something to modify?

andrew, i dont hate supras, they are just too big for that.

would be great to import a chaser...

sometimes i think maybe modify a 1st gen celica....

its just something crazy that came up the other day...

an ae86 would be a great start...

but idk.... Nissans sound good... ill just keep this in mind.

any mid engine car would be a very steep learning curve.

they are not too popular on drifting.

not a bad deal here

there was another one for a similar price, original owner, who moved from Texas less than a year ago, red, totally stock, but can't find it, is probably sold by now

Don't know if you ever seen this but i found it and thought it had some good info its very basic on drifting itself if you seen it then never mind
http://youtu.be/eLDejTKH388

but i mean Keiichi Tsuchiya FTW - i got the "drifting bible" but haven't gotten around to watching it definetly a good thing to look over if you have some time to kill

also good luck i still think drifting is pretty sick if its done right.
