I'm guessing this mounts in place of a cat, for those wishing to delete it?

Dunno what's the exact term or name, but its a customized pipe that replace the stocked Catalyst, that make the exhaust system more smooth...
Might fail the emission test for most country thou -------------------- |

"test" pipe? a cat converter with no insides?
-------------------- ◊◊◊ My F/S Thread! ◊◊◊
QUOTE (14:19:21) Daniel: That was a JDM hole in the side of the box too. There was so much JDM trapped inside that box that they couldn't contain it, so they had to put a JDM hole in the box to let the JDM out. QUOTE Ferdi says (11:29) No, it looks like a hooker put her acid vag on your hood. Acid vag = bigger problem than a few dings. |

I always thought the cat was closer to the manifold at the front of the car - from what I understood that part you have circled is the OEM Resonator.
... although the 3S system does look a lot different in that diagram compared to the 5S... This post has been edited by KAOS: Sep 10, 2009 - 9:28 PM -------------------- |

The 3SGE didn't make it to North America, so the exhaust system never had to worry about California regulations.
The 5SFE has a primary cat which functions as the collector for the log-style manifold on all engines. In Cali-spec cars, there was a secondary cat under the body, in roughly the same place as the one pictured on the 3SGE. The primary cat on the 5SFE couldn't be placed on the 3SGE in the same way, as the 3SGE used a two-piece, 4-2-1 manifold instead of the much less effective log-style of the 5SFE. |

I've seen "fake" cats before, and basically it's a test pipe with shielding still on it so that it passes a visual inspection.
But we can wait for pictures to confirm. -------------------- 1991 MR2 - T-tops - Crimson Red - Gen3 3SGTE - Lots of money
