I bought (2) 6.5" speakers for the front...is that right or wrong for DIRECT REPLACEMENT with no modifications? I think my rears are 5 1/4's but Im not sure..can anyone help me out? thanks

I forgot to mention mine is the system with no tweeters in the little triangles and has only 4 speakers, no factory amp or anything.

There is a bid on ebay for 5 1/4 speakers ending soon, so if someone can help me out with this asap, I'd appreciate it. thanks

The rears are like 6.0"s but you can easily make a 6.5"s fit there [or apparantly 6x9s with some modification - I think there was a thread here about that recently?]. The fronts are either 6.5"s in 8" brackets or straight 8" with or without tweets. You can easily fit 6"-6.5" here since very few companies make a full range 8" speaker. Check my how-to here for details on that:

I checked it out at a toyota dealership (where i work) my fronts are 6.5"s and the rears are 5 1/4"s
Heres what my system will be soon as all the stuff come in the mail.

(1) 12" Phoenix gold 600W Sub in single carpeted box
(2) 6.5" Phoenix gold 200W speakers for front
(2) 5 1/4" Phoenix gold 200W speakers for rear
(2) 1" Kicker 350W tweeters
(1) Sony Xplod 2 channel 800W amp to power sub
(1) Nitro BMW 1.5 Farad digital capacitator
(1) Alpine deck
(1) Power Acoustik 4 channel 800W amp to power 4 speakers

Only thing Im wondering is is the 800W amp for the speakers too much? The speakers are each 200W so combined all 4 is 800W which is what the amp is. So are they gonna blow the speakers fast, should I go with a less powerful amp for the speakers? Plus the sub is only 600W and the amp there is 800W so should I go with a weaker amp with the sub too? thanks for the help

It depends on the system you have, 4 speaker system, 8 etc... But does anyone know is a 800W amp too much power for 4 200W speakers?

Thats peak 200W max each speaker. There are 2 6.5" Phoenix golds for the front and 2 5.25" Phoenix golds for the rear.

You know the amp has a gain control on it right? Just turn it down. For longevities sake I never run my amps higher than 75% anyway.

It won't blow your speakers as long as you don't turn your gain all the way up! The best way to know where you should keep your gain on your amp is to pump your volume up and fine tune your gain on your amps so that you don't hear ANY distortion coming from your speakers. That amp should be good, because you're not over-working your amp. Some people buy a 500 watt amp to push lets say a 800 watt speaker, and they leave the gain all the way up which works your amp really hard. This way with your amp probably at like halfway or maybe 3 quarters up, it wouldn't get worked that hard. Plus, if you fine tune it right, then you should have no problems with your system.

Hey Guys,

I'm also planning a Sound System upgrade, nothing extravagant but hopefully something to improve the quality a little.

I have a '99 ST Lift/hatchback with the 4 speaker setup (2 up front and 2 at the back) - I believe from reading the above that this makes both the fronts and back 6.5" stock speakers.

I'm planning on converting this to a 6 speaker system with some JBL GTO-607C's at the front, flush mounting into the triangle behind the mirrors. Does anyone know if this is possible without changing the triangle plate to the version with the slightly elevated tweaker grilles, i.e. is there enough room for the tweater? Do I need a mounting adapter for the mid=woofers (the JBL's will fit 6.0" - 6 3/4" fitments). I saw the post from death but this seemed like a little modification was required. I was hoping to just be able to screw them in.

Also do the rear speakers need a mounting adapter, the guy on ebay offering me the front adapters is also offering me some for the rear?

One last question - I really dislike the grillse on the front speakers - can these be changed, can i use the grilles with the new speakers?

Thanks for the help.

SG
