Hey guys, been a long time since I been back. But I’m looking into the next celi so it’s about that time to get my plans together. I’ve done the 5sfte and loved it, but after losing it, I don’t think it’s a road I want to walk down again. I want some more power…300hp +. So that brings me to one of two options. Nicely worked out 3sgte or mildly boosted v6 or nicely worked out vs. with cams and so on….
What are the advantages and of these three possibilities? I remember a member and his dad was setting up a v6, not sure how it turned out (I’m going to hunt down that thread after I write this) but it was looking very promising. I won’t be doing the work myself, and my mechanic is very good and is willing to make it happen. So I’m really leaning towards the v6 right now. But will it be that much better than the 3sgte? Is it worth it? The car will not be a daily driver so that’s not a problem for me.

Hope to hear from you guys on this….

the v6 will prolly end up costing quite a bit more, consitering the custom work involved, and the fact that you wouldnt be doing the work yourself.

that said, with the right amount of money, a turbo 6 would be SICK in a celica...i see lots of money spent on tires with that kind of off the line TQ, and boost. lol

v6 + turbo = very expensive to do, and lots of custom work.
3sgte swap = well documented, cheaper, and unlimited potential.

Having said that, I would love to see a turbo v6 swap done.... but I personally wouldn't want the headache of dealing with it.

I don't know your mechanic abilities, but a V6 swap is not to be taken for granted, it involves a lot more work than a 3sgte, it's more custom work, mechanically and electronically. the V6 is not a road explored by many yet, and there are different V6 options that work slightly different, so even if another member wants to help you, he might not know the fine details of the particular engine you're using. 3SGTE easier for the abundance of info, so with that said I think you should go 3sgte since if your mechanic run into a question he can just read some post here and get his answer.

i would go V6 + turbo. you'll easily get some nice numbers put down after working out the custom stuff...

plus i'll then have something to reference to when i scrape up the money to get mine in wink.gif

3 of the most valued memebers all pointing the same direction is good enough for me. 3s it is! The v6 sounds reeeeeally tempting though....i always thought they came with lsd...and vvti already. plus a nice lil 5psi and 2 grand in tires lol...that would be an animal.

But im sold. 3sgte it is for me. i think with the weight of the celi....a moddest 350hp would be the sweet spot. i have a pretty good idea of what i need to get there. so look out soon guys....some PMs may be coming your way soon. i still owe you a trip and some beers manny! i'll be up there soon!

First, be aware that many people will side with the 3s - its only natural here. I love my V6 because its got torque/power with NA reliability. Also its a camry V6 - what could be easier to have worked on? I wouldn't do a turbo setup, maybe a TRD S/C though... tongue.gif

You are wrong about the V6 not fitting.
But, if you meant to say V6 +turbo you could be right. Just think before you post so you really say what you mean. wink.gif

Damn - very true [and relevant these days]. The V6 if driven like the Camry was meant to should get slightly better mileage than the Camry the motor came from due to the weight. No 3S I know can boast that good of MPG.
Add boost to that and you can kiss that goodbye tho [can you imagine the MPG then? *shudders*]
