Ok, well i got in an accident about a month back and the air bags deployed. Well i looked at the inspection slip and it said nothing about the airbags on it. I just go my lights in today and that WAS all i was waiting on but i called up my local inspection station and they said that it was VA state law that if a vehical came from the factory with airbags that the airbags had to be in it for it to pass inspection. D#$n VA stupid laws. If anyone has any previous knowledge about airbags replacement or legalities or even wants to sell me theirs i would appreciate it.

A bodyshop quoted me $800 for the passenger side airbag, I think around another $800 for the drivers side airbag, he also said the sensors and computer would need to be replaced once the airbags have been deployed... and then installation would kick you in the ass..... if you found a place that would even want to install them.

Here is a rundown of about how much the the airbag system will cost you straight from my estimates.
Drivers Airbag $578.45 Passenger Airbag $587.17 Center Sensor $383.95 Clock Spring $221.29 Air Bag Door Passenger $84.20 Front Sensors $54.79 x 2 = $109.58 _______ $1964.64 Parts cost $242.80 Labor 5.6 Hrs at $38.00 an Hr $2207.44 Total Cost Before you go out and buy used parts, make sure whomever is going to install this stuff will do it with used parts.I could only find a few places that would install them, but they would'nt hook the system up, that would have to be done by Toyota. |

heres what you do. get some springs, and shove them in the air bag holes. stuff some pillows on top of those springs. then find a way to attach the cover (ie clips, light glue, etc...) so when you get into an accident, they'll pop off... the pillows will shoot out infront of your face, and there ya go!! your saved... cost = under $100

yeah im not doing it through insurance. my dad thought he would save some money by not putting colision on my car. i talked to them and they said that they would have totaled it if it were covered. My dad and i are going to install them probobly. I talked to the guy yesterday at my local toyota dealership and he gave me basically the same quotes as gas65, but my dad called them back and they gave him a quote just for parts of a lot less. my total was a little under 2k for parts. his quote was only 1400! i hate how some adults think just because i am still a "child" that they can hustle me!

Just so you know, my quote was from a body shop using aftermarket parts, lord only knows what the Toyota dealership would charge.
