As some of you know, I really messed up my interior when I decided to paint it. Ok, laugh it up, flame me to death, but I sprayed my air vents instead of taking them out. The fumes aren't bad (it goes away after about ~10 seconds), but the look is just.. not good IMO. With that said, I'm trying to find replacement pieces without having to go to the dealer and being raped. I'm looking for a replacement of everything that I painted, which, fortunately, isn't that much. The search button yields nothing. The ebay and the google yield nothing. The Qatar yields nothing but a CF-center piece in an old TRD catalog (which doesn't even include the vents.. go figure). SO I'm here, embarassing myself to everyone, to see what any of you think.
I'd like to have two sets in all, one to keep stock, and the current ones I have now that I can keep messing up on until I get it right. Below are the exact pieces I need, and if you'd like, I can provide pictures. If you or anyone you know is parting out, that would be _really_ nice, or if you know of any 6gc's in junkyards near you.. and are willing to ship the items for me, I'll compensate nicely. There aren't any junkyards that I know of nearby where I am, but I'm going to start searching this weekend. Pieces: -Main center piece. Must have hazard light button, clock, and air vents included. -Drivers side main vent. Must have air vent included. -Drivers side upper vent -Passenger side upper vent -Front ashtray -Rear ashtray -Cigarette lighter (yes, I know this is pathetic..) Let me know what you can find/sell/obtain, any help is appreciated. Thanks, -Brian |

i'm confused...if you sprayed them without taking it out...paint should have gotten everywhere
if you just painted them...then your fine... it will take about a week for the smell to go away... would have been better to paint during summer...so you could drive with the window down -------------------- ![]() |

You can easily find such things from totaled celis and junk yards. Not sure, but i think i saw a few posts in the buying selling section for parting out totalled celis. You need to go through them one by one and contact a few people. Just think that they will not post each and every part for the search button to work

Naw, I took the parts out before spraying them (thank god I'm not THAT thickheaded).. but the look is still unsatisfactory. I sprayed them a good two and a half months ago, and decided that I'd sand it down and retry recently until I realized just how difficult that was going to be (sanding vents.. ain't gonna happen). So while I continue to prep these pieces for the second go at it, I'd like to have another pair waiting for me.
acidbyte, it does? Damn, I always say that about other people's, mine's like completely stock, and doesn't even have different colored tubing and stuff like so many other people's. Looking to change that soon though =D I'm going to try and find local junkyards soon, maybe SpedToe can help me out with that one, I think he travels back and forth around here a lot. -Brian |

From what i hear, the best way to remove the paint on this plastic pieces is to use break fluid. Anything else and you risk deforming the shape of the pieces. Supposedly, breakfluid will soak up the paint and it will peel right off. It actually makes sense. Haven't tried it my self though but i would like to know if it works out.You see i painted mine with a brush because i could not get the color i wanted in a spray and i will probably be redoing mine properly in the future.

you could also try finger anil polish remover it has just enough acitone in it to break up paint but will not harm anything else.
I have never heard for using break fluid that pretty interesting. William |

I soaked several pieces in denatured alcohol overnight (it was suggested to me by multiple sources, including here), and those that were soaked seem.. oddly surfaced now, it's kinda hard to explain, but they just don't feel the same, and give off an 'off-black' color. Right now they should be ready to repaint, but I'd like to have two sets, just so that I can make sure one is always nice looking.

umm.. wow. I never really thought it was that clean, but you're number two on this topic to point that out. Well, to be honest with you, it was like this from when I bought it. I have washed it very lightly myself, but only with a quick blast from a spray hose and some careful drying off. I always thought the engine looked a little messy IMO.
