So I pulled the Celica back out on the road and after 426,000 KM, my rims factory rims are a wreck. I really don't want to sink anymore cash into the Celica...

so I was thinking of spray painting my factory rims (believe me.. they look really dirty the way they are)

Is this advisable? I saw a nice spray paint that resembles the stock colour. Would this look good or WHACK. Would i need to apply a clear coat after?

Anyone?

Thanks..

Shaun

yes clear coat is good.. protects the paint.. well to a point...

i was thinking about using brake caliper paint to paint my stock wheels black for the winter.. and about 5 layers of clear coat.. but that might be overkill.. i know a few people on her have paint wheel.. you can try doing a search.. or just wait if the respone to the thread..

painting them works fine. Even the cheap 98cents paint will do fine...just clean them up and wire brush the crap off them and go at it..i like to put lots of tire gel on my tires and just spray like crazy then wire brush the paint off the tires..i did my 3000GT stock wheels and my G/F's celica rims.

It won't look whack if done correctly. Look up Verde97, he repainted his 17's to black i believe. He did a great job on his, it turned out great.

He's also on celica.net also He had a post showing the progress on his wheels.

no he means the gel that use to make your tires shiney, its an oily product so when u spray the tires u can clean it off when your done.

i didnt even cover the tires with tape smile.gif Thats why i used some tire gel so the paint doesnt stick real good to the tires. Just wire brush the paint off the rubber after the wheels dry. Works real nice. I just used the Silver dupont Wheel paint from autozone.

Thanks for the help guys. I bought some SILVER Wheel Spraypaint as well as a High Performance clear coat! WOW! HuGE difference. From a wheel that had patches of silver mixed with dull, grey, rusted and pitted areas to a nice solid shimmery shiny silver coat!

Wow! I am super impressed. The car's paint has always been top notch, and it seems to have ressurected the car!

Thanks!
