Since no one posted this yet... I'll just post it again:

http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/1/
http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/filters_test/2/

EDIT: Oh yeah.. and this is just one example...

Whats exactly what i was searching for, kuya1284 posted these links like a year and a half ago, and i think these guys that did that test are not trying to fool some one or make a comersial, so NOW you can deside with examples...

the original q was what one out of K+N, HKS, or TRD.

I assume hes talking about a panel filter and not an induction kit, although hell prove me wrong now lol

Im running a 250mm(10 inch) long Green filters cone filter (the one used in the peugeot 206 rally car) caused no probs as yet and the car is much more positive in acceleration

In my opinion, those tests are all BS,,,if you dump enough "fine particle" stuff on an oiled filter, it will of course eventually coat all the oiled surface so some stuff doesn't get trapped, but in the real world, no one would let it go that long, I have used foam air filters for years, they are the only thing I could use in my VW powered dune buggy, paper lasted about 3 days off-road, K&N not much longer, they would choke down so bad it was like driving with the choke stuck on, The foam ones (Amsoil) could go months with no problems, and no wear. They are one of the main reasons I eventually became an Amsoil dealer. As far as allowing wear or harming the air-flow sensor, I ran my 87 Mazda 626 for 162K miles with a foam air filter (and Amsoil synthetic oil) - NO problems. Lost all the water and cracked the head at 162k. When I took it apart, I couldn't measure any wear in the cylinders. the old rings were .003 out of spec, .017 in., limits were .008-.014. (the NEW aftermarket rings were .018!!!, had to buy OE Mazda rings - which were .011 exactly mid-spec, NO measurable wear in the cylinders )
So they can say whatever they want, I will still use the Amsoil foam air filters.
Reminds me of the old door-to-door vacuum cleaner salesmen, they would dump their "test dirt" under the rug and show how their vacuum could suck it up right thru the rug! then if you bought the unit, they would throw in a new bag cause they were nice, in reality it was to get their extra-special super fine laboratory test dirt back so they could re-use it on the next sucker.

IMHO, if you're going to use a foam/sponge filter, you might as well save some money and stick a panty hose at the end of your intake. It works just as well...

I am not completely new to all of this. This is my 5th Celica and I have both a cone filter and a TRD drop in and I can say positively that the cone filter gives me way better performance - I don't know if it's extra horses, torque whatever it just way outperforms the drop in.
Noticible difference in gas consumption though but I don't care.

You gas consumption should not change "noticeably"... your gas consumption probably change "noticeably" because you change your driving habits (i.e. gunning it more often just so you could hear your intake)...

It does sound beautiful since I ran the vent line or whatever that was going to the valve cover. Sounded horrible before that.
Seriously tho it made a huge difference in performance.

Where can I find the Apexi Power Intake? I'm doing the How-To-Do project here on the site for a Cold Air Intake on an ST and have all the parts now except the filter itself I believe.

You can get Apex'i filters for about $75... which is only about $20-$30 more than a K&N filter. This is not that much more, considering that you don't have to change your filter as often as you perform an oil change...

I'm in if it would be a significant savings. I think freight would kill that deal though.
