I've been working with MSD to custom make a set of 8.5mm superconductor wires for our 5S-FE. They say if they work good on my car they will start making them. I got all of the connectors sent to me and a 8cyl. universal kit from MSD direct for free. I took a day off from work so there would be no pressure to rush. I cut the wires to stock length and made all the connections perfectly trust me. I used my old spark plug boots and just carefully bored them larger.
The problem is:
on my '99 GT there are these funky clips that connect the essentially male end of the wire to the female connections on the distributer cap. MSD didn't include any clips and the ones off my stock wires won't fit over the MSD connectors. They work fine at start up but my engine starts to miss after a few minutes. I'm assuming they are just vibrating loose. I don't remember my '95 having this same set-up but I could be wrong - it's been like two years since I changed those and the car has since been sold.
I called toyota and they want like $9.00 each for the connectors only and I need six. I was like "I can get a whole set of stock or NGK wires for that or less!" and the parts guy looked at me like he was sick of racers making him work.
Plus the connectors MSD made for me look very homemade and don't exactly fill me confidence.
Any Ideas?

Yes - I definetly got the order correct. As I said it starts fine but starts to miss after a few minutes (during warm up). I'm pretty sure the connections are coming loose do to the lack of clips to positivly lock them down at the cap.
Does anybody know if the earlier 5S-FE's had a different set-up on the cap end of the wires?

My only experience with MSD are the plug wires and they works perfectly with my engine....also...a friend of mine is using a blaster2 coil and it works great! just my opinion.... smile.gif
