Hey I could really use some ideas for a wing i can't decide if I want a racing wing or a fiberglass one. Any pics or suggestions would be helpful. Maybe even some pros and cons of both of them. Thanks inadvance

I'd definitely say fiberglass, but that's just because I don't like the aluminum wings at all in most cases.

Aluminum Wings
Pros:
- Doesn't require paint before installation
- Generally cheaper

Cons:
- Doesn't look very good(this is just my opinion though)
- Almost always requires new holes to be drilled right in the middle of your trunklid

Fiberglass Wings
Pros:
- To me, these wings look so, so much better than aluminum wings
- Often uses the same holes as your factory wing(if you've got one)

Cons:
- Generally more expensive
- Does require painting before installation on the car

Hope this helps you out a bit. I can't stress how much better fiberglass wings look in comparison with aluminum wings in my opinion, but ultimately, it comes up to what you want on your car, not what anyone else wants. smile.gif

I'm gonna have to agree with Coomer

i think aluminum wings just ruin what other wise could be a nice looking car, nothing worse than seeing a nice car with a giant alumin park bench stapled to the trunk

i personally would rather have a fiberglass one....but they are very expensive--after install/paint etc etc

but, its up to you

I would go with a fiberglass on also... I have had both on my 6th and I did really like the wing but I think the fiberglass ones look better... except for the supra style on it comes up way to high. I have the GTR/B battle wing.... yeah ricey blah blah blah... newayz the GTR/B battle wing fits the body lines of the 6th gne PERFECTLY.. down to the millimeter... trust me I actually measured everything out... and if your planin on doing the invader kit then it will fit the car even better as it shares the same styling as the rear airdamn of the invader kit.. here is a photo of it sorry it couldnt of been better but its the only angle I have

depends on what you want. performance wise i would go with a CF wing. for looks i would go with fiberglass. and yes CF/aluminum are useful towards fwd cars.

the price would be around the same if you dont have a wing on your car to begin with, the reason

-Fiberglass wings need to be prepared and painted

-Non-fiberglass wings don't

please explain to me how an aluminum wing is helpful in a FWD vehicle. the wing which causes downforce, in return pushing the rear down and in return pushes the front up (the front in which the actual drive is) seems to me to hurt the cars performance. well, that and they arent the nicest looking wing in the world.

Not too mention that wings add drag to your car, especially the huge aluminum ones. Any wing is gonna add more drag to your car though.

yes, I actually read in a recent issue of super street that aluminum wings do help FWD cars. I think it has something to do with air circulation under the car by not allowing as much air under the car, albeit by slowing you down.

they help to distribute the weight of the vehicle a little more evenly though out the car. they can all act kinda of like a rear tail does on an airplane and help with stablility. I noticed this when I had my CF wing - when evey I was above 65 miles per hour the car would kinda lurch downward and get really smooth on the handling. I was great on the interstate

Yes this is true, however for a metal wing to be really effective it needs to be out in the clean air not the dirty air that comes off of the top of the car. A friend of mine is really into how to tune a car so that it can be really good, and we were talking about the ricers and there god awfull wings. He said that for the wing to be the most effective on any car that it takes alot of work to make it jsut right, and most kids just slap them on there. Yes they may help out some but they can be more effective if they know what they are doing and do the work/research on the placment on them. Any way just go with a fiberglass wing on the celica.

that is very tru neverstop but you dont have to use an aluminum wing to get the downforce. just chose a more aggressive style fiberglass wing like the invader, stock w/ posts or others. you get the same results but a cleaner and less hondalike ride.

if you don't have a aluminum wing properly set, you could have some real problems. How would you like to see your rear tires off of the ground?

Ok guy's I have an aluminum wing on mine( fully ajustable), it is exactly the one on the green eclipse in the fast and the furious. This is going out to Dickster223 strictly from experience.

I don't know about you guys but fiberglass wings are old school they are a thing of the past, aluminum is in now, not fiberglass wing, seems to me that aluminum wing are more expensive if you get a good kind. Aluminum wings don't look bad like I said the other wings are played out, although I will tell you this, look you won't be dissapointed with how your aluminum wing looks but they are heavy and your trunk will probably not support the weight when it's open (you'll have to hold it open, I have to with mine) I know that sucks but I look at it this way ( at least it'll be harder for people to steal my Pheonix Gold Amp and 15' speakers they're bolted on to my frame anyway) Anyway gettting back to the subject, I do have to say that aluminum wings rattle more than the fiberglass.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that fiberglass and aluminum have their good and bad characteristics but here's something that you might consider about an aluminum wing, Aluminum wings are 95% universal if you buy one and don't like it you van easily sell it to someone, and if you ever sell your car, you can put your old wing on your car and still put your aluminum on your new car. Trsut me you have more options with the wing eg. differernt style, adjustable, universal, I tried my wing on my sister honda civic and that sh&t looked tight!

Hope this helped.

ok, think physics and aerodynamics. when a FWD car is going 100mph the wind pushes the front of the car downward especially on the windsheild. this creates lift towards your rear wheels. with that in mind the rear wheels are not providing the right amount of traction which equals an unbalanced car. a good CF or aluminum wing (not cheap $100 wings but more like test and proven $500-) will give your car a proper balance which equals more traction. NOW the important part, rear wind diffusors are also used in FWD cars along with the CF wing to eliminate any unnecessary downforce. hey we learn someting new everyday. wiggle.gif wiggle.gif wink.gif wink.gif
