I checked this out last night with a friend that owns a '94 (mines a '99) - you will get a lot more airflow out of the early models "big smile" than the IMO prettier later model airdam. On the later model you will only get it through the small hole next to the fog light. If you don't have the fogs the airflow should be about the same.
You will also suck up water in bad conditions this way. frown.gif If you don't believe this get it on a lift it will be obvious at this point.

I'm not refering to your CAI in particular - just ones that follow the stock setup to the front fender. That fender's air is common to the front airdam on the "big smile" and to the foglight hole on the later models. As I said in bad conditions water will get in through the smile (or to a lesser extent through the foglight hole in later models) and will be sucked up into your engine. Obviously the more water is present the worse this will happen.
BTW - I wasn't trying to bad mouth your setup. I would never badmouth someone with a 6GC because you have already proven you have style by buying the car. I would not bad mouth someone who is trying to squeeze more power out of a 6GC because I think that makes you even more unique. And I would not bad mouth someone who made his own CAI because it shows you are ingenuitive. Props to you - it was just a warning from someone who actually checked this out last night as a potential setup for his own car.

It will definetly help. I'm a mechanical/hydraulic engineer by day and I was trying to come up with a solution to that myself. The idea of the mesh is what I initially thought of as well. To work correctly you would need a mesh that will permit relativly unimpeded airflow but will block water. This is a very interesting problem and I'm going to experiment with different sized meshes and try to find one that water will pour over and not through. It's just a matter of finding the right size holes. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
BTW - That's why all the baffles in the stock fender airbox.

Yeah Evil speed's are like 220, a lil expensive. You should make a cheaper one.

Evil Speed's may be cleaner, but I know I didn't spend half that. I think I spent $100 total. The only real big expenses are the air filter itself and the mandrel bent pipe from JC Whitney. I took pics last night of my engine bay after doing a bit of cleaning. I'll post later tonight to add a few more photos to the mix.

I've driven in pouring rain several times since putting my CAI in... no problems.

My piping is only 2.5". The cone filter itself is 3". You can get a reducer really cheap too.
