I will be shooting my car in the next two weeks. Ive had all the materials and have done this before. It takes a few times to get used to the gun and adjusting the correct spray pattern. If you are interested in doing something like this yourself i would recommend getting a book and perhaps an instructional video. Oh and i dont think anyone mentioned it but you definitely need an industrial spraying mask. Those fumes are ridculous even with the mask on. Mine ran me about $275. So yeah....spraying parts yourself is extremely cost-ineffective if you onlly plan on doing it once. The materials alone will cost a good buck. But if you do decide to shoot your bodykit or body yourself, the best thing to remember is that the prep work will make or break your final product.

yea he is right if your just doing one peice its not worth your time, but if you make it a job then go for it, i would suggest going to shops and asking them if you can work there and be an apprentice(sp). thats how i got started i worked at the place im at now for about 2 months for free and to be truthfull i learned more at this shop then i ever did when i payed to take classes. so what i am saying is that ya best bet is going to a shop and learning , tapes and books are ok but nuttin like hands on.
oh yea wet sand primer with 600 grit makes it look good

Forplay is sooo right about the mask. If you use a cheap mask, your nose hairs will be the same color as your car and you will cough up color tinted loogies. Your health and safety are first priority. I think you can do it,there's alot of things involved when painting but it sounds harder to do than it really is. Practice on something else first to get a feel for things and don't get in a hurry. You will probably mess up a few times before you get a hang of it,but, it is something that alot of people get to scared to do themselves and you will have the satisfaction of knowing that your own hands did the work.

Yea guys, I mean just realize it wont be simple. Do your homework and learn as much as you can about it, then give it a try. I would love to be able to do my own painting, and props to ya if you can do a great paintjob for a third of the price. wink.gif
