I was bored this morning, so I decided to install a cold air intake since it was raining and I couldn't wash the car.

I'm using 2.5" aluminized piping from JCWhitney, with silicone couplers(actually just one right now) and silicone liner clamps from HighTempSilicone.com.

Installation was easy and took maybe half an hour. The longest part by far was making two cuts in the aluminized piping with a hacksaw. Then it was just removing the filter from the end of the AFM, hooking the pipe up to it, and then putting the intake on end of the pipe.

Right now it's not attached to anything securely and it's really ugly, but later tonight I plan to head into town and buy some Duplicolor high-temp paint and paint the pipes a dark gray color. I also plan to clean up that AFM a bit, and replace those yellow rubber couplers with the higher quality blue silicone ones. I'll probably move some of those wires around the battery tray too, so that it's not so cluttered around there.

As far as performance gains, I didn't notice any, nor did I notice any difference in sound, but that's probably because my exhaust is so loud that I can't hear anything besides exhaust. I think that part of why I didn't notice gains today was because it was overcast and cool today rather than 100+ like it's been around here lately. On the hot days, my car used to noticably suffer from heat soak after a bit. Performance would decline as I drive the car more and more in the heat, most likely because that filter in the engine bay was drawing in hotter and hotter air. I think that on hot days now, performance will be more consistent and will be better. smile.gif I'll know for sure on Tuesday probably. smile.gif

Anyway, here's a couple pics...don't worry, it won't be this ugly for long. biggrin.gif

youll be needing filter cleaning kits cause thats going to get all clogged up with dirt fast.... and flies n stuff. A scoop from the underneith of the car and a pipe going up to the filter is a better option.

Actually, his CAI is still above the dirt guard. So, not so much

Nah, not yet, but I have a feeling that it may be due to my throttle cable having slack and not hitting WOT...I'm hoping that that's what it is. smile.gif

And AgtX, I've already got the K&N filter cleaning kit, and I'll probably take it out in a couple months and see how dirty it is, and clean it if necessary. That's assuming I still have the car. wink.gif

The four coats of paint are drying on the pipes and the AFM is now pretty clean again, so tonight I'll hopefully have some new pics of the setup. biggrin.gif

I have a short ram from a 95 civic and then today I went got that exhaust repair flextube from Autozone. Then, I just duct taped it together and into where the stock one goes. Works good. It's really reallly loud too.

That's cool...I'd worry about the duct tape though...it might not hold up for long and cause engine damage. Got any pics of your setup?

Nah, I don't have a camera. The tape holds really good. I don't know how much it helped because I just advanced my timing.

Hmm...interesting.

I'd post pics of my new setup but I ended up throwing the filter at a cement wall and then punching through a window. frown.gif

What happened?

I got really angry at my car...my pipe ended up falling off the car and getting the paint all scraped off, and then the filter wouldn't fit on the pipe without pushing the seal on it in, and then I hit the garage door and the garage shook and a drill fell on my rear bumper and damaged the paint. frown.gif

You start smoking. That's what I do when I get pissed working on a project. It'll mellow you out good.....

But tightening the the throttle cable isnt too hard (on a 5s)...and if you over tighten it, you can ideal at 3k like i did for a bit. It's like Easy Launching for Dummies!

I think so...it would have to be cut off, which isn't really a problem...I think that the coolant reservoir is mounted to the bottom of it though. But if it is, it shouldn't be too hard of a fix to make some sort of a bracket to hold it in place.

I also am going to repaint the engine bay sometime if I keep the car for a while, because there are areas that I missed with the gray paint and they are still teal and ugly.

You need one of them blow-up bats Chris

i know the frustration though. when I was installing my front struts, I forgot about the bump stops after completely reinstalling the struts and rims. I ended up throwing my stock springs in the garage.... bad idea. They bounced everywhere luckly not hitting anything too important. Use the blow up bat and then you can beat up your car everyday!!!

CAI looks good though. smile.gif
