you forgot cutting away the front half of the spare tire well ![]() pimpstarr690 - I want you to listen to me.... U R NOT READY FOR THIS..... no offense there.. but your not ready. I attempted this project about 3 years ago.. and while I got it to work it had problems... major ones and I ended up takin it off. that was on a liftback, your going to try and attempt this on a convert = DANGEROUS - the major prob I had with this setup was almost uncontrollable pull to the side at high speeds. I STRONGLY recommend that you just stop this project before it even gets started. Not because it can't be done.. cuz it can. But because it's not worth it. with that said I want you to know that this is not an attempt to flame you, it is an attempt to discourage you from something that could potentionally cause a major problem/accident/etc. but if you decided to go ahead with it... I got a transmission for you ![]() edit: shameless selling tactics rock ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by NEVERSTOP: Aug 24, 2004 - 9:44 PM -------------------- ![]() 99 project version 3.0.. hello SEMA 2010 =) |

i do have a question though, if you have a gt4 and took out the fron drive axels to make it RWD would it push all the power to those wheels or would it only get like half the power??

Hey, Im sorry that I didn't respond lately but like my computer crashed and I tryed to make an earlier reply today but I guess that it didn't like to work. lagos, If you were tryn' to E-Mail me earlier and it didnt go through it was because my aunt deleted my account. But I understand the AWD conversion. It would be pretty sweet to do it but it would be pretty damn hard to do. Currently I'm doing the bodywork to the Celi. I got rid of those teeth that are in the center grill. I tryed to use Bondo but I realized that didn't work due to the fact that I used the wrong stuff. But the fuel Cell, Would you have to cut a hole in the rear trunk to place it in correctly like RWD cars? But 3S-GTE swap will also hopefully be done this winter. My friend still wants to do that AWD conversion. So if anyone has any pictures on the specific modifications are can I please get them so I can take a gander to see what I'm getting myself into?

well if i sound like an ass saying this, o well ... you obvoiusly dont know any thing about celicas. awd is proberly the toughest thing you can do on the celica. not only does it have to be placed PERFECTLY, there are so many changes that will have to be made to the car. if you had any kind of mechanical knowledge you would relize just from looking at the underside of your friends car that seroius work would have to be done such as cutting part of the spare tire well, or moving the gas tank. i hope you understand that if you place a part a MM off that it could mean total destruction to the car. would u really want your friend or anyone you know to be driving this car at 100 mph then the rear axle falling off cuasing the car to crash and everyone to burn to death. there are so many people on this site that are so smart when it comes to cars. if it was a thing that could be done, it would of have been done many times over. you need to think of the consequences of converting to awd. i wouldnet let a mechanic do it for free to my car. just simply you cant trust it. Our cars arent made for awd. i am by far no good at cars. i havent even changed my oil, yet i know that this would be pretty much impossible. you would need so many tools, and so much money invested into a shop to do it the right way. and lastly lets say you get started with this project but eventually cant finish it, your friend is going to be left with a car that wont work. thats money down the drain... (and one less celica ![]() please, PLEAse do everyone a favor and do not attempt this. you cant do this right. if you had the know how you would not need to ask where parts are or if u could move certain things somewhere. heh everyone must think im an ass now ![]() |

It can be done.
I has been done. Is it worth it? For show, may be For performance, NO. You will have unstable car. Otherwise, the guy in S. Florida wouldn't put it on eBay. I guess he was just trying to cut his loss. But that's just my guess. -------------------- _Gary

IMO it can be done and safely.....but only to ruffly 100 mph
so ideally i'd only do this for the intentions of drift competition but drag would probably be another story..... if you take the time measure everything 100% perfect and 100% level then you will have a safe piece of equipment provided the welds, connections...ect. are good |

DamDirtyApes, your sitting here bustin my chops and you dont know anything about cars? I do have a shop were I can do this at also (if need be). I have multiple friends that has done AWD conversions...Just not to a Celi. So if we do end up doing this, it will be done. It just wont be a 2 person project. So my knowlede of cars is pretty good...So if we do go through with this. We can make it possible and it is for the purpose of drift...

"there are so many people on this site that are so smart when it comes to cars. if it was a thing that could be done, it would of have been done many times over"
lol...honestly....and i dont mean to flame anyone or doubt their abilities.....but the celica comunity is not very mechanicaly inclined. part of the reason is that we own such realiable cars, that they give us very little reason to pop the hood. take a look at some DSM sites one day. those cars have their fair share of issues, and end up turing everyone into great mechanics. there are even guys there who swap 4g63s into Colts and make them awd and other crazy projects. -------------------- 15PSI - 30MPG - Megasquirt Tuned

after your little swap it would be easier to just buy a full clip of a gt4 and weld teh back end on to your friends celi. i mean the cars not going to be that safe anyway so why not just do an easier job.

Talk about beating a dead horse...
and player158: drifting puts more strain on the rear suspension and drivetrain than going fast... just so you know. Umm... hmm... where to start. Maybe I'll cut it short today. Can be done and can be done safely and correctly, but for a price tag most people wouldn't pay. All depends on your wallet (or pocket-book as some foreigners call it). It's the sort of project you DON'T want to take any short-cuts on and DEFINATELY DO NOT do anything cheap. I personally have spent long hours examining the rear of the Celica... and do think it can be done with the proper parts, fabrication, and reinforcment... however, only those who are 100% sure they must finish should even start... and you better know your stuff when it comes to balancing driveshafts, setting up correct points for suspension parts, etc... good luck... -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I think first were diong the Engine swap but im not 100% on that. I gotta talk to my buddy. But I understand the things dealing with the AWD conversion. I know people that have done AWD conversions before. So she and a few of my other buddy's would help me if I run into a perdiciment.
