I was bored this morning, so I decided to install a cold air intake since it was raining and I couldn't wash the car.
I'm using 2.5" aluminized piping from JCWhitney, with silicone couplers(actually just one right now) and silicone liner clamps from HighTempSilicone.com. Installation was easy and took maybe half an hour. The longest part by far was making two cuts in the aluminized piping with a hacksaw. Then it was just removing the filter from the end of the AFM, hooking the pipe up to it, and then putting the intake on end of the pipe. Right now it's not attached to anything securely and it's really ugly, but later tonight I plan to head into town and buy some Duplicolor high-temp paint and paint the pipes a dark gray color. I also plan to clean up that AFM a bit, and replace those yellow rubber couplers with the higher quality blue silicone ones. I'll probably move some of those wires around the battery tray too, so that it's not so cluttered around there. As far as performance gains, I didn't notice any, nor did I notice any difference in sound, but that's probably because my exhaust is so loud that I can't hear anything besides exhaust. I think that part of why I didn't notice gains today was because it was overcast and cool today rather than 100+ like it's been around here lately. On the hot days, my car used to noticably suffer from heat soak after a bit. Performance would decline as I drive the car more and more in the heat, most likely because that filter in the engine bay was drawing in hotter and hotter air. I think that on hot days now, performance will be more consistent and will be better. Anyway, here's a couple pics...don't worry, it won't be this ugly for long. ![]()
