when dealing with high horsepower 3sgte's...how bad is it to have FWD. are you guys with swaps in your celica's spinning your tires too much to make the car fun to drive? the reason i ask is because i read people hating on FWD all the time, saying RWD is the only way to go (it IS more fun), but im almost done swapping a 3sgte+lsd mr2 tranny into my celi. my goals are to have it around 300-350hp before too long.

what are your opinions on high HP and FWD

um i dont see a problem with FWD. just get some wide rims with good grippy tires and you should be ok. you wont have wheel spin if you learn how to launch properly.

also get stiffer springs/ shocks in the rear to keep wheel hop down.

This is a very good post for discussion....its really bad when you have FWD to launch but i think with LSD or a good weight balance it could be better but you will never have the launch of a RWD and especially AWD.
This is an answer that the swap people should answer.

if you have 15s with crappy tires, you will spin like crazy when u floor it.

right now i got 17s with kumho tires. never had any problems with this setup. the 3sgte just feels right in a 6th gen. i can honestly say that if i had to choose having my swap be fwd or awd, i would pick fwd.

i have 17's with new dunlop sp 9000's...i'd say im pretty good at launching. you just gotta get the feel of when your clutch can handle more gas and let the pedal out at the right time.

FWD sucks major a$$ performance wise
the same tires have to do most of the breaking, steering and apply power..
in a straight line I'm sure the car will be a blast with the correct tires and right suspension set up, but around a track is a totally different story.. loads of understeer and an inability to get any power down in harpin curves..
I wouldnt reccomend trying to get too much hp out of the 3sgte, it will be redundant after a while, even at launch in a drag race FWD set up is the worst because all the weight of the car goes to the rear...

RWD is the best drivetrain by for for city driving (IMO)

I think our cars are great, but if you want performance, jsut get something else..

u mean when you start out really slow in 2nd like at 2k then floor it around 4.5k my tires break free. and ive got nice good gripping tires? torque steer blows it will make the car wanna turn either direction so u have to hold onto the wheel tight. running 11 psi now. smile.gif haha i dont care every seems fine.

ill break loose in 2nd but only on rainy days....when its dry, it almost wants to break loose. i need to figure out whats going on with my car....my theories are, boost leak, clutch (maby), or incorrect timing belt install....who knows.

lol, going around a circle shaped on ramp my auto ST-T broke the tires loose in 2nd

had to let off the gas, that why high power fwd isnt good for track racing.

and that wasnt even with the massive power a 3sgte can make.

well i wont be doing any track racing, and very little drag racing...this will just be my daily driver...i just like to get out of a corner with a little space ahead of me and just take off like a bat outta hell for a second or two, for that nice feeling of rediculous speed, then just go about driving like normal till the next turn. smile.gif
