 3rd gen 3sgte owners, what is this and do i make it work |

on my gt4 hood, there is a little air scoop that seems to scoop air into this back rubber part that sits next to the timing belt cover. anyone know what its used for and how i could add it onto my 2nd gen 3sgte? my guess is that its some type of timing belt cooler or a way to make air flow under the stock topmount.

i found out that the piece is for drawing cool air in under the water to air intercooler. so it looks like its useless to me.
