how do you retard the timing on an obd II 7afe ecu for a force induction set up?
i might as well add to this... does port and polishing the 7afe head affect its ablility to pass smog? what about increasing compression? This post has been edited by Hanyo: Sep 29, 2004 - 11:01 PM |

port and polish doesn't increase compression.
on celica.net there is a how to on retarding timing. This post has been edited by rjbibeau: Sep 29, 2004 - 11:34 PM -------------------- ![]() |

of coarse port and polish doesnt increase compression.. i'm asking two different question.. does A) port and polish affect smog B) does increasing compression affect smog.. and some more information.. i specified obd II cuz the distributor cant be adjusted like obd I.. so the celica.net how-to is useless. no one seems to know how.. i've asked before and i have never gotten an answer.. if you cant retart the timing.. how do you turbo you car with out knocking? but thanks for the reply. |

obd-ii is non intrusive; it can't change the functions of the car.

thanks for the reply shid,
but you do not own a 7afe and you dont know what i am talking about. pre -obd II distroputers allow you to loosen the bolt so you can turn the distributor so you can retard or and advance the timing.. obd II distributer do no have this function.. you can not loosen this bold and turn the distributor.. the distributor can not move for adjustment. (at least to the extent of my knowledge) let me repeat it agian for those that do not understand.. i specified obd II cuz the distributor cant be adjusted like obd I.. |

Hanyo, your original question was how do you retard timing using OBD II; which I took to meant you wanted to hook a computer up and program your ECU with it to retard the timing, to this I told you OBDII is non instrusive (as OBDII is the same (minus interface differences from Toyota to Ford etc) on every car.
There was really no need for the "you don't know what you're talking about reply" since I answered your question, just not in the way you wanted it. |

obd2 is pretty good about puting your timing where it needs to be

i did not say ANYTHING about using or adjusting OBD II system.. BUT i did say how do you adjust the time of a 7afe engine with the obd II "version" ecu. clearly you can tell the obd II version of the 7afe ecu adjusts timing automatically. So if i wanted to adjust the timing i would have to go through the ECU.. not the obd II system. |

ecu controls timing based on sensor inputs, there is no adjusting it with out a ECU reflash -------------------- 1994 Celica GT4 WRC Edition
