Sadness. It's about 55 degrees outside - two hours ago I went to go watch a movie with some friends. The first time I started the car, it died almost instantly. Tried it again, with the same results. I could keep it going with some gas, but as soon as I let off, it would die. I idled it myself for a couple minutes, after which the car acted fine.

Sounds like I'm having the same type of problems as these guys -
cold start switch? vaccum leak?

Engine isn't too old - 70k, and up until now has been running great. What's a cold start switch? And.. vaccum leak means a line has a hole in it? Why would that fix itself after the engine warms up?

thats happened to me in colder temps as well when the car has sat cold for awhile in damp air... a quick getaway has solved the problem everytime...

Well, i don't know about our cars, but my friend 200 SER has a cold start switch on the ecu, which you switch over to in the winter.

hmm, i forgot to also say that according to my friends standing outside, there was a pretty strong smell of gas. Most likely from my partially flooding the engine trying to start it right?

this seems to be a very common celica issue. check your egr system and make sure its not cloged. aslo, check to make sure there arent any loose or cracked vac lines.
