I was thinking of the 3S-GTE into my 99 Celica GT Convertible. I am wondering if it would be CARB legal in California. The 2nd Gen 3S-GTE was from 1990/1-1996 in the U.S.

My question is would it be street legal to swap in the 3S-GTE engine because my Celica was made in 1999. From my understanding the Engine has to be newer than the car which leaves me no choice but to go JDM supposedly. 99+ 3S-GTE? if there was i'd have to have all that smog crap installed. Off the top of my head I don't remember if the 3S-GTE was manufactured from 99+. If not...I am aware of the 5S-FE turbo kit BUT up comes the CARB legality issue. I just realized then that even if there was a 3S-GTE engine 99+ the problem is that I cannont modify the Japanese head (EGR problems). Oh yea....I don't want to bribe the Khmer people to pass me. Comments? Opinions? confused.gif
