Did some research on Medical Doctors Salaries, I found most Specialist Average about $250,000 a year. The thing that gets me is I always hear in the news about malpractice insurance rates being to high and doctors complaining, but I just looked up the national premium rates and they are only like $8,000 a year.
uhhh $8,000 out of $250,000 ya Doc thats gonna run you out of business. |

just remember that w/o doctors theres a very good chance you wouldnt be alive right now, or your parents... etc. Doctors make as much as they do for a reason, doctors are also sued very frequently for what usually very silly things that they have no control over.

specialists who make $250K dont work 24 hours shifts, though they do work crazy hours nevertheless. interns and those on rotation work 24+ hour shifts and only make about $25-30K.
doctors are worth the money they make. They spend a good ten years of their life being poor and learning before they can even think about making the big money. -------------------- Its Orville's Celica, i just drive it... |

Wow, maybe next time your apendix is inflamed or theres a lump in your sac you can cut it out yourself? Wouldn't wanna go to someone who spent nearly a decade in school and now reaps the benefits.
Also physicists don't make alot of money because unless they are researching new ways to kill people they don't matter in the eyes of most. I think 100k a year is more then enough to live a good life anyways. This post has been edited by Uppitycracker: Nov 20, 2004 - 3:44 PM |

Doctors get paid what they do because of the level of responsibility involved, plain and simple. It takes a special kind of person to have that level of concentration on a daily basis when it comes to surgeons and such. They defininetly EARN their salaries for sure.

yet we have the highest malpractices then ever before.
I'm not saying doctors dont deserve to be paid, they do and good money, but not ridiculous rates. Theres a artifical supply and demand problem set up by the Doctors themselves to keep rates for common procedures ridculously high. Hospitals wanted to qualify anesthetist to do more things that Anethesiologist do, but there was a huge backlash by Anesthesiologist. Its similiar in other specialities, you have the majority of the Work done by nurse level or just graduate level assistants. These people know more from years of exp then some MDs but get paid way less, but are prohibited from officially doing the same things as their MD counterparts. Next time you get sick and have to pay out the wazoo, remember that your doctor is laughing all the way to the bank, for something that couldve been done by an assistant level for way less. oh just because you go to years of school doesn't make you automatically responsible, I think thats pretty clear from all the sexual offense and malpractice cases agaisnt doctors This post has been edited by coustoe: Nov 20, 2004 - 10:18 PM |

Im forgetting that you guys don't have public health care, I suppose in this case its different because a good amount of people can't get care because of this. But thats the governments bad spending, not the doctors. I think there should be a secondary government to govern the primary government spending, its just insane the amount of money wasted.
