Hello... I have a 97 Celica ST with 83k mi. on it, 6k of which are mine, but I was pretty new at driving stick for the first couple of months- I'm pretty sure my clutch plate is burnt. (I can feel serious transmission slip and even see it on the tachometer.) Has anyone put a clutch other than the standard one in their celica? What do you guys think, should I go for a better one? I'm not sure yet what's out there. Thanks..

after a quick glance at some clutches, it seems like any multi-plate clutch is wasted unless the car has way more power than mine ever will.. but it looks like clutch plates aren't too expensive, though.

postnebulous if you dont thinking of making major upgrades of performance on your car,install the geniune one from Toyota.
If you want to improve the shifting on your car just change your gearbox oil with e better one,use also a treatment and install a quickshift....this is fine for daily use driving. |

I installed the factory one from Toyota and upgraded the Tranny lube to Amsoil fully synthetic fluid. It shifts great and the clutch is very strong. If you don't have a turbo set up I would highly recommend going stock because you really don't need that much grabbing power untill you reach the higher hp numbers.

Whatever you do make sure to either buy a new flywheel or at the very least resurface the one that's on there. Also be sure to get a new throw out bearing and clean everything when it goes in. If you don't have a torque wrench definately buy one for the flywheel bolts. You don't want one backing out on you... trust me

What ever you do, don't put a high presure clutch in. I put one in my can and the hydrolic pump would depress it all the way. Took me awile to figure that out, now I need a new transmition. Live and learn.

You should just get a OEM clutch kit. Like lots of people above said, it's not worth upgrading the clutch, if you don't have power to even need it. And clutch kit should come with everything you need to replace the clutch.. Like throw out bearing, friction plate, pressure plate, blah blah. Good luck
