thats how fed ex and ups work -- they go to a big shipping center. we always send a package from our office and send it to spokane - 4 hours east but it goes to california first

Nat I use to work for fedex... So its not that all their shipments go to kentucky first... The shipment would go to the local "hub" which for the bay area (whereI am and where they are) would go to oakland. The package then go's through a sort, where humans, not machines pull the packages into seperate containers which are then loaded on planes. My guess is all the calanders were stacked or similar looking and the person pulling for the east coast shipments pulled all the calanders, and so everyones went to kentucky.
