Try downloading Adaware SE from adaware.com, or look up adaware on google and get the site. Thus far that is one of the best rated and known spy/adware programs that you can dl for free! Keeps my computer pretty damn clean

Spyware Search and Destroy and Adaware are your best bets.

Spybot was the best until I caught a browser hi-jacker that spybot never even found & norton 2k5 couldn't even get rid of it. I looked up the name of the spyware that norton gave me which led me to Giant's Antispyware & I never looked back on spybot again, I dont even have to scan weekly like I used to with spybot.

edit: firefox r0x0rz!

This is an important one. Adaware and Spybot work well, but don't kill all the fun things that can hook onto IE. I strongly recommend going to mozilla.org and getting Firefox. It's a great browser and quite immune to spyware... for now.

First, set fire fox as your default. Second: go into your programs on the control panel and delete things you don't remember installing (if you have no clue what you actually NEED, don't do this) last, get Kazaa lite and Download Spyblaster pro Version 3. Then go to astalavista.com and get the serial code for it. BAM you have Expensive software killing everything that gets close and you paid NOTHING. Not that I do that sort of thing...

as mentioned before in this thread

ad-aware + spybot (these look for bit different stuff so its good to have both)
other browser than IE.. firefox or opera are good choices
antivirus program.. one good is Antivir
firewall... Sygate personall firewall is good

keep those updated too along windows itself

depending how much you know about computers... also EasyCleaner is good addition but remember not to use "dublicates" function

if you are VERY scary about security (or just want play safe for sure).. then peerguardian is nice one along all above, even it can block some sites that really dont threat you, when you run that program it even blocks ads from yahoo, msn, aim..
