My digital camera won't let me transfer files to the memory card from the computer unless I update the drivers for the camera which is fine with me but my wife likes the default windows drivers which are easier for her. My question is this. Can I set up each user account to load a different driver for the camera? If so, how? I have Windows XP Pro and the camera is a Kodak CX6330.

Are you talking about drivers or programs?! I think you got the two confused, if you meant programs, when you install, if you two guys got different user accounts, just install the one you like on your account & keep the other program installed on her account.

Did I say programs? No. I said drivers. :End Retoracal Comments: wink.gif j/k. I know about the different programs and how to start them in the registry or startup folder but I need to know if seperate drivers for a particular device can be loaded for each user.

I don't understand how updated drivers can change the difficulty of accessing the camera....

Because of the way windows handles the device. Since Windows automaticly loads it's own generic drivers for the camera when it's detected and the picture transfer wizard pops up automaticly and this is how my wife likes it. I, on the other hand, prefer that the camera be treated as a removable storage device instead of a camera which is what these other drivers do. Does that help any?

win xp? hmm, thats not the drivers thats just how windows recagnises it, if you have win xp you should get a pop up that gives you the optinos of how to act when that device is installed. your anser is yes and no, wile you can only really use one driver (per say) you can have it react differantly for each user.

This is not making much sence, I think the propble is not the drver but something else, why wont it let you trans the files, can you even view them? It should always let you view it as if it was a storage device, just open it in the my computers folder. if it does not recognise it then update the drivers and change the settings to what you want.

might help if i know what camera, if its usb or if you have a card reader, etc.

Now you making sense to me tongue.gif & quick answer is no, even though there will be 2+ accounts on 1 PC, the system files will be the same throughout all the accounts so changing the drivers on one account changes them on all. There should be a way though to have the camera as a removable storage device & still get that picture transfer wizard, I just cant remember how at the moment cause it's how I have it on my pc with my dv-cam.

Yeah that'd work great but when I try and use the scanner and camera wizard with the new drivers it shows up as a removable drive and does not show up in the wizard. All I see is the scanner. I guess I'll just keep trying different things until I figure it out.

Yes it is drivers. Windows XP still uses them. Yes I can view them and transfer them from the camera but not from the computer to the camera.

What settings are you talking about changing?

Camera is Kodak CX6330 USB. No I don't have a card reader.

I think I'm just going to have to tinker with it to get it to work the way I want.

Why cant you make a link (shortcut) on the desktop to the wizard program that you want for the user who wants it. then leave it as you want it.

i have a HP digital and I do the exact same thing you do. My family likes to have everything automaticaly uploaded to the My Pictures folder, and new folders are created and dated. I, in the other hand, use it as a cheap storage device. What i do is, i go into the settings of the camera, and tell it to act like a storage devide, and i have the HP software installed that auto uploads ect.

do you have the kodak program installed? Maybe you can teach your wife how to use the kodak program. They are usually pretty user friendly.

She's pretty stuborn and really likes the way XP handles the camera but I'm going to try and convince her to use these other drivers. Oh well. I guess if I need to upload something I can deal with changing drivers. rolleyes.gif
