I just bought a 97 ST that has 17" with 215/45. The gas mileage is pretty crappy with this car. I just took it to get the fuel injectors cleaned. But anyway, I remember reading posts of people saying there were getting like 20-23 mpg. FOr those people, what size tires are you running? On my 94 St i Have 16's and Im gett 30-31 mpg. I don't think 17'' should drop the mileage that much..

Anyway, if you have MPG in the lower 20's canyou let me know what size tire you are running? I'm trying to do some research on how much these 17's are going to cost me in the long run, and if there is something to do about it.

Thanks
Jeremy

honestly i get crappy gas mileage too. but i do drive in the upper RPMs and i do drive in city traffic. but even if i do a run down to oregon which is roughly 180 miles or so it takes me like 1/2 a tank to 3/4ths a tank

usually closer to 3/4ths and thats even if im not playing around and downshifting. Damn i better get ready to get myself a new engine wtih the way im driving!

I get 23 mpg. I have stock 15's. 250-280 miles per tank and I still have like 4 gallons left. I drive normal now but punch it once in a while. I have a GT though.

Thats bout what I get it. Depending how i drive. When I tried to see what i could get at best driving norm, like shifting around 3k almost all the time, and most of the driving was int he middle of city an highway like. I got 30 mpg, that was at best. On nom drivingwith out thinking of gas i get around 24-26 mpg.. which sucks for me..

You guys just need tune ups. I've gotten as good as 40mpg crusing from one side of the country to the other at 80-90mph on 17's. Typically, around town, I get 28-35mpg depending on how much I drive the freeways. The Celica ST shouldn't get under 26-28 mpg in the city. If you do, you should look to getting a tune up or something...

Why would wheels make any difference to MPG if the RR is close to stock?

Thinking about gas milage? I try not to. £0.86 a litre here now.

Why the **** would anyone buy replacement wheels that were heavier than stock, and increase unsprung rotating mass.....

....oh yeah. Bling.

My new wheels are sodding expensive for a good reason.

I guess its time to get a fuel filter, I have done everything else besides that. Also would the egr valve effect it, i wouldnt think so, it runs fine and passed emisions with a bad one.

yeah, im probly the worst gas mileage here. avg 20 mpg on an auto ST. i just got a ticket so im driving slower too. it shifts at ~ 3500 rpm. i didnt calculate what my gas mileage was before the ticket. all i did was get a new air filter. are gas filters hard to put in myself?

EDIT: forgot to say i have 185/70/14's too.

It's do-able. Just got to be careful not to spill too much gasoline and remember that the bottom screw/thread is backwards. There are a few How-To's floating around.
