Going away next week. Friday night. Decided to take the long way home down some fun roads.
Now, in hindsight, on gritted slippery potentially icy roads on brand spanking new tyres, possibly foolish. 60mph, tight right hander, down to 3rd, on the brakes, wash off some speed. Turn in. Front turned in like it was nailed there. The back, erm, didn't. I'd like to say that my cat like reactions caught the slide, and I heroically powered out the corner on full boost with a whiff of opposite lock. I'd like to say that. What actually happened was this; I bricked it and jumped out of the throttle. Instinctive reaction and a bloody silly thing to do. Never ever do this. This made the slide worse. Dialed in some opposite lock, and caught the slide. Things are looking better, although I'm now sliding down the road looking at the verge thinking "my, this is exciting". Like an idiot, over corrected, so now we're going the other way. Developed into a bit of a tank slapper, which was solved by getting back on the throttle to pull everything back into line. The entire incident was probably over in 3 seconds and took place in about 30m. It felt like a lot longer than that. I have a vivid memory of watching the nose tighten up and feeling the entire car start to rotate. Fun on a track. Fun if you're expecting it. I wasn't. 100% driver error. I knew the tyres were new. I knew the road was gritted. I knew it had been snowing earlier was bloody cold. I had to scrape ice off the windows when I started her. I should have guessed the road would have been very slippery, and when the car stepped out of line I should have handled it better. I can't blame the ice/gravel/whatever, I knew it was there. Inappropriate speed for the conditions. I'll learn from it. And all within the speed limit. -------------------- JDM ST205
Blitz Spec NUR Exhaust, somewhere over $1000 Needing another one 18000 miles later, bloody annoying. |
