Hey im a noob here,

I was just posting to say hi and tell about my new car. I also have a few questions as well. When I bought the car the motor was shot so I am in the process of putting in a newer 5sfe w/ 50 000 kilometers on it. I have no been able to drive it as of yet because of repairs. My father owns a toyota dealership so I have the thing in the back on jack stands right now. So far I have no mods but the car came with NGK wires and a new distributor, clutch and flywheel. I have also degreased the whole motor bay after we took out the motor. My plans are to paint the rims, TRD brake pads, and to paint the calipers black. When I get the motor back in I want to put on a INJEN intake and paint the cam cover.

My questions are:
What does the car top out at (speed)?
What does the car rev till (rpm, absolute)?
What does it pull on the quarter mile (mines a GTS)?
What speed does the car do in each gear?

Also my CD player doesnt work it has a constant source but just doesnt turn on. The attenna on the back is cut of at the bottom. I have tryed other similar radios and they dont work either, I have checked all fuses.

I hope to learn more on this forum.

If your father owns a dealership why not just have them swap in a 3sgte or better yet a 4agze (I dig superchargers) later on?

As for the top speed an st is 110 and the gt only sports 25 more horsepower so not much more.

well iv been up to 120 and still going with my gt. id expect 125-130 for top speed

the car revs to about 6300

1/4 mile is crappy. unless you turbo it or supercharge, you are NOT getting any decent performance out of the 5sfe. (well unless you have a lot of money to spend)

o yeah with the intake, unless you can find a used injen i would recomendd going with a custom made short ram intake from one of the guys here on the board. cheaper and it does the same job.

have fun with your new celica

1/4 mile time low 16s if your a good driver and that is pretty slow. You get the picture. Turbo the 5sfe or 3sgte swap.

GTS=GT in the US

6,300rpm
16.4 on a stock GT
32mph in first gear, round the low 50s in 2nd, 73 in third, above that I dunno

Welcome aboard Scott,
As far as your stereo goes, the previous owner might have taken the amps that come stock with the car.

Your speedo is not accurate. Indicated 140 is probably only about 125 in real life (10% error)

Don't they have the 3S-GE's in canada? The NA 3S engine. If it's a GTS like this guy said, then shouldn't a lot of these numbers be incorrect? So, my question is for TdrKing, is it a GT with the Sports Package (2200 16v engine), or the GTS (doesn't say 2200 16v)?

The car is a GT-S w/ a 5sfe the 3sge was two gens back.
I want to swap in another motor eventually (beams 3sge or 3sgte) but i just stuffed another 5sfe in because I want to get the car on the road again. As of right now I am just swapping stuff between motors and painting odd bits.

Ill try to get some pics up when I get finished.

Low 16's is not terrible for a stock car I know it is on the slow side but most Toyotas do better lapping and track sports.

The stock amp is still there I will check over the wires thanks!

Track cars? Umm...their decent. I'm not saying you're wrong, just thinking out loud

The Supra is a great drag car. The MR2....I'm still trying to find out why Toyota made it. Like, what cars did they want it to compete with? Still cool tho. Neither real strong or weak in drag or track. More of a fun-2-drive car. The celica is just a cheap sports car that's slow, but you can still have fun with it.

The older MR2s have some damn good grip when you throw them around.
My dad got us one to use for drag racing only. Its got intake exhaust clutch soon to be port and polish and decked head. They are fun cars also to do launches cause of their traction.

The celi speedo is pretty dang accurate at high speeds. I was expecting it not to be, so when I was pulled over while my speedo read 97, I was expecting him to be like: so, 85?

Nope, he had a reading of 95-96.
