does anyone know much about the toyota caldina. that is the only vehical the 3rd gen 3sgte comes in right?
if so, what are the diff. between it and the 2nd gen besides the turbo and map sensor, are there any diff in the internals and things like cams and cam gears i had never heard of a caldina before and no one i know from here (meridian( has ever heard of it, i did see it on GT4 and it has a 2.0L 1998cc motor that has 255 HP and its turbo so that does sound an awfull lot like the 3rd gen 3s but i wasn't sure \any help is much appriciated, thanks guys -------------------- |

the caldina motor is a 4th gen 3SGTE. the 3rd gen came in the 94-99 GT-FOURs and 94+ (?) MR2's
as far I know there is only one person who has done a caldina swap into a 6g celica. he is a member here from russia however I don't remember his name. in actuality though there really is no point to this swap because a) it will cost a lot more for the clip and b) the wiring will be a huge hassle. I say give up on the idea and stick to either a 2nd or 3rd gen 3sgte |

Some call the Caldina a 3.5 gen 3sgte. There is a guy with a car on cardomain with a swap. You'll hear most people here say that its not worth it, but I'd like to see someone try it. Not that much is known about the difference between the 3rd gen 3s and the one in the caldina. Logic tells me that the wiring would be mostly the same. The reason you'd pay more is because the engine would be newer and more reliable at higher horses.

QUOTE(CheesyLobster @ Feb 28, 2005 - 7:03 AM) ?? I didn't know that. What is the tranny called? Basically an auto tranny with a manual shift mode. In other words... a wiring NIGHTMARE... ;] I'm sure the engine has basic upgrades that have evolved through the years... but most of those upgrades don't require the entire Caldina ecu and harness... most would be mechanical I'd imagine. Also... I think the Calidna might be MAF sensored... which I don't like. -------------------- "It's ok to be naked girl... I'm an artist!"

Right, I know someone with a Caldina (it's his daily driver, he has a modified ST205 for the weekend).
The 4th gen doesn't have much over the 3rd gen. It gets VVTi II think, which is good. It also has a air/air interwarmer, which is a step backwards. It's also 4 speed slush-o-matic only (althought apparently the gearbox is pretty good). Nice wagon. Cheap these days too. -------------------- JDM ST205
Blitz Spec NUR Exhaust, somewhere over $1000 Needing another one 18000 miles later, bloody annoying. |

Go to Member's Rides and find Paul. He's the one with the Caldina swap.

yeah it is
ok so there are 4 generations of 3sgtes never heard that before. so a third gen is whats in a GT-4 Celica St205 also are there any diff. in the 2nd and 3rd gen as far as bore size or compression or any other internal diff. the swap i'm getting (if i get it) is a 3rd gen i thought that was the caldina motor which is why i was skeptic cuz i figured it would be really hard to find one -------------------- |
