Well I took my celi into ELP last monday to hopefully debug the poor thing and get it up and running. Well I finally received an email friday telling me that my harness was not done very well and it has to be redone frown.gif . That really sux cuz I wont have the extra money to buy the stand alone nor the greddy emanage. But he will be charging me $1500 to redo my harness and I pray that will be the solution to my major problems. So as soon as thats done i will put in my order for the new turbo and other internals. As of now tho thats the bad and ugly news for me frown.gif .

Soon to be boosted,
David

http://www.6gc.net/forums/index.php?showtopic=21544&hl=

Just power hungry want more boost! It part of my new project, mostly head work. If my wishes and plans go accordingly this summer my car will be done.

Don't worry motor is fine (to my knowledge), its not blown or anything.

Soon to be boosted,
David

Wouldn't you HAVE the money for the standalone if you didn't spend it to fix your harness? Im lost.... Save your $1500 and have them installe a AEM system. Shouldn't cost much if any more.

Well according to ELP before I upgrade to an AEM or ANY upgrade I would need to find the problem and have the car running 1st. Which made sense to me and i figured that. I dunno maybe I am wrong in assuming that. At the same time i trust ELP they have a VERY good reputation as we all know, NOT TIME or BUSINESS wise but in their work yes.

They can get your car running just as fast using a standalone but will make 1/2 as much doing that first. For what they charge the wire must be made of gold. Personaly i would have sent the harness to DG to look at. I dont know, I hope they find the problem cause thats one hell of a bill.

Also all they need to do is keep a spare harness around to throw in the car and see if it runs......But that wouldn't be as cost effective now would it?

David, your car is one of the top coupes around here, get it running and for gods sake get a better digi cam. Boo camera phones.

Well i will talk to Eric at ELP see what happens. Unfortunately b/c he is sooo busy wi/ secrect projects and many more 3rd gen mr2 swaps that he doesnt answer his phone nor even have an answer machine. He only replies by email. Besides i think DG would need to test the harness and run the car before figuring its JUST the harness, thats why its at ELP a lot closer than DG.

And thanks for the final compliment, it still feels good to hear that every now and then. And btw my new poject should blow my current celi out of the water biggrin.gif Dont worry I'll borrow a digicam for those pix.

this is another one of mikes shady harness jobs aint it? those ELP guys must be getting sick of fixing every harness he did.

If he has wires coming and going to the wrong places they're going to have to go through the entire harness. With a standalone, you take the wires of known pins and connect them, if his wires are screwed up, they're not going to know where stuff is, thats what they're going to do.

Its alot of time to do that, thats why its expensive.

Sounds like the work of a former member. He wired harnesses form members before ELP became so big. His work has seemed to fall apart after a max of a year or so. Out of respect I'll not include his name.

Yeah, I saw that reference, but in the Engine Swap thread David never mentioned using him to do the harness. I just assumed from the thread that he had Evolution do it with the swap. Anyone know?

K YES evolution did my swap and yes they did my harness, I had nothing to do with Mike. BUT i think there is a chance this other mechanic i delt w/ might have tampered w/ it a bit. But i am not sure.

lagos- After my accident, 1 year ago this april, my car hasnt been the same. Then it parked in my garage since Oct. or Nov. of '04. So the poor celi hasnt seen the road in a while. Some of the problems i was having were, sputtering, idling, fuel, and i think turbo might be going out on me. frown.gif

Coomer - Yes going into a coupe. Thats all im saying wink.gif

1bwilson - Ill PM you to check if its the same guy.

I'm going Thurs. to pay ELP part of the money, then i will talk to him about the EMS and i will keep you guys posted.

No need for the PM David. I was talking about Mike also....I just dont like seeing his name thrown around the forum like it has been in the past. He pioneered the early 6th gen world (Along with many others) and out of respect for that I try and not direct every possible problem at him.

ELP dd the swap and now their charging you again? Damn.....double hit. Dont they back their work?

No, Evolution in Sacramento did my work. This is the 1st time ELP is touching my car. I remember Mike I know he did work hard to help out our fellow 6gc members but it just unfortunate that things didnt turn out for the best.

ToYCeLi8, i would get a full diagnosis from a normal mechanic before you have your wiring redone. make sure the problems that you are having are not cause by the motor before you put all that money into your harness.

I took my car to several mech.'s and some were just confused about the project and didnt know how to approach it. I even had 1 guy point at the turbo and ask me what it was? confused.gif I turned around and walked away biggrin.gif My cousin reccomended me to a "GREAT MECH." he was just as stunned when he saw my car as the rest. He was a great HONDA mech. Its difficult to find people that know about the 3sgte motor, then to top it off someone that knows the swap. Thats why i took it to ELP. They were my last option.

Anyway, when i arrived at ELP the harness was out. And JUST A MESS. The work was not done very well. Wires werent connected. Ground wires were grounded that were not supposed to be grounded. Ugly harness. Well in about a week my car will be running i hope.

i know your trying to do the right thing for your motor, but this is one of those times where you should just trust the guys who have had their swaps for a while and have done a ton of research into this.

I have no complaints towards Mike and the work he did for me. He worked wonders for me. Great dude.
