Previosuly I was getting 20-21 MPG as posted, and could not figure out why it was so bad compared to others with a '94 1.8L ST. Well now I'm getting around 29-30 MPG which is in accordance with fuel economy.gov. so what changed? Well after a recent accident where I had to have the entire exhaust system replace (read old post) and changing the O2 sensor (2nd one after 2nd cat) its getting great fuel economy on 87 OC gasoline.
After the accident I should have had an O2 sensor which disconnected from the electrical conenction, instead it was just hanging there bent, and the bolts which were supposed to connect it the the exhust system were missing, purchased some bolts, and they threaded on just fine (i.e. weren't stripped). So I guess at some the O2 sensor bolts had come off, and messing up the fuel economy. So guys with bad fuel economy, take a look at the O2 sensors and make sure they are connected properly. |

I tried z-max and it helped with my fuel economy and it was on sale for $15 so it was worth a shot, thanks to WuHuKF for suggesting it.

I did a search for Zmax, I got this result:
http://www.ftc.gov/opa/2001/02/zmax1.htm It appears the government is suing zmax cuz it causes extra engine corrosion and does not increase performance. |
