I have a question for all you electricians out there... What is the easiest way for someone to wire up daytime running lights? What needs to happen is when the knob is in the "off" position, the highbeams need to come on at 1/2 intensity. When the knob is turned to parking lights or "on" the highs shut off completely (unless of course the lever is pushed forward to have the high beams on). Thanks in advance for any suggestions...

Celicas in Canada have them wired for DRLs. The best bet is to find someone who has disabled them there and work in reverse.

There's a quick diagram of how you'd wire this up. The only part I'm unsure of is where there's the big green question mark. I believe that you'd use some sort of resistor, but the resistor I tried didn't work for when I attempted to do similar to this. Up in Canada they probably have more information on how to add DRL systems to cars...you could probably find the correct resistor at a junkyard.

The problem would be the resistor, you can't efficiently reduce the power of a light with a DC system. To half the power of the light you need to dissipate the rest of the energy in the resistor. So for a 60W rated bulb on 12VDC you will need a .996Ohm 12.4W rated resistor, when most electronic resistors are 1/4W.

easiest way I can think of is just get some fogs lights and run them through a switch, much less work and frustration, plus it makes ur car look cooler.

Well I found this module that I'm thinking about buying instead of trying to figure it out myself. $30 isn't that bad. I'm not sure if this would work through the high beams though (not sure if it would leave the highs on at 1/2 power even when I switched the headlights to on, but that might be cool anyways).

I don't know why I didn't think of that. Yes, that would work prefectly with any lights you hook it to.
PS You could probably get that cheaper somewhere else ![]() -------------------- |
