 improve stock intake, or am i stupid |

i hear that the weak point in the stock intake is the tubing going down into the drivers side fender. they say that its too restrictive. what if i took that tubing out and just drilled 1" holes all around it? it would be less restrictive and still be getting colder air. the holes would be before the filter (obviously), so it sounds like it would work. what do you guys think?
