driving your own personal built car will never EVER match driving a ferrari or a high end porsche or exotic... there's certain aspects of development that goes into those types of cars that the average out-of-garage mechanic and/or aftermarket shop just cannot compete with, no matter how good they are. you may be able to make a car faster than one, but its still just not the same as actually driving one, the refinement and overall driving experience is just sooo incredable you cant get it from building a car yourself, its a completely different aspect of the automotive world.

if i were to be able to afford one of those special 6-digit vehicles, i would buy one in a heartbeat... its an experience you cant get anywhere else.

As I said before the prestige, but last time I checked Porche is now a glorified VW, but that is my fault for comparing it to a Ferrari or Lamborgini. I would like to drive any of them, except the Viper i've done that. Needless to say it's just like a Lexus IS300, people pay $30,000+ for these cars but when it comes down to it, it's a Toyota. Lift the floor mats in a Porche and you see VW (not really just a joke), but for those Audi owners check under the hood and you might see VW stamped or molded somewhere, just like on the air box of the Jetta VR6 it's got the Audi rings. I don't need the shield or bull to compensate for my (you know), my Celica does just fine for looks and power is just around the corner. (And ask easternpiro1 it's still a chick magnet)

Don't try to bring up the Porsche GT because even Ford has a supercar and there is nothing special about Ford.

?
any company can make an amazing car
they all have smart engineers
and all the company does for a supercar is NOT cut corners, and make the price tag huge to compensate for it all...

Talking about these "supercars" makes me wonder, who's left Aston Martin, Jaguar, and Land Rover are under Ford, Porsche and Audi are owned by VW, I think BMW is owned by Mini, GM owns Hummer, I think Ferrari got bought by Fiat or somebody. I believe Lamborghini is all that is left, all of these prestigious manufacturers are owned by a regular everyday car company. Now it was that a Porsche was unique and rare, something only the cream of the crop could have (ex. 944), but now they're just cars, I wouldn't feel any different driving a Ferrari than a new GTO.

Ford GT, 30 year old design, original engineers dead or in nursing homes, and they slap a tuned up Cobra engine in it and tag it at $141,245 so that the dealerships can price it at $300,000. They're selling a car today that probably cost them a cool million to develop back then.(don't hold me to that)

correction: bmw owns mini

so what if all the exotic auto manufacturers are owned by larger companies? now they have more resources for development and distribution. really I have no idea what you are going on about ..

I wouldn't take a Boxter if anyone handed over the keys, first off for a Porche they are SLOW, second it uses VW parts (not that VW is bad, but it's a Porche), and third Porches are very cheap made just check the quility Hyundai makes more reliable cars, i'd take a d*** Daewoo over that crap.

Last time I checked a 'Porche' was something in front of the house that you sat in and drank lemonade. Or pehaps a name a blond would give a silly yapping dog.

A Porsche is a nicely engineered sports car.

Cheaply made? Have you sat in one recently?

I'm currently driving a POS Chevvy. Now *that* is cheaply made.

A Boxster S is probably the finest car of it's class in the world. No exceptions. And I'd have one in a heartbeat.

I'd prefer a GT3 RS however......

couldn't handle worth it's life
or the viper
or the countach

all of those cars are far less refined than oh let's say a supra with a greddy single turbo t78

Count-hash was a very very fast truck (with horrible visibility and a clutch you need to be a weightlifter to use)

Viper is not a well developed car. It's a dirty great engine in a simple chassis. And no the worse for that.

Diablo handles just fine. It's just that it's a balls out 200mph supercar, so it *will* bite you.

See I like people who actually work for what they have. I have respect for those people, I don't like most Porsche, Viper, Ferrari, and other exotic drivers because most of them get those cars since they are to lazy to build them a car like that or they think it's the prestige of owning it. A note for the people that own those cars I have a '69 Chevelle sitting in the garage ready to hand you your ass and only spent $15,000 to do it.

They are status symbols, so what, they're into exotic/fast cars.

lamborghinis are light as ****, they are made of all composite and carbon fiber shells, their drivetrain is an absolute work of art, using a mid engine AWD design. you really need to open your eyes and see exactly how insane some of these designs and engineering is, everything on the vehicle has a purpose, if it doesnt have a purpose it is not put on a car, you really have no concept of what type of work goes into making these and all types of cars. however explaining this really will make no difference as you are obviously very closed minded in your thinking about many topics discussed.

rolleyes.gif ... First off, Lamborghini since 98 has had direct ties with Audi, having Audi run the company and guide design, meaning Volkswagen is in control of the company... Also, Porsche has ALWAYS been within the VW circle- Ferdinand Porsche originally designed the VW bug for hitler, and afterwards, went on to create sportscars under his own name. Their relationship has always been comunicable. Please tell me what parts from ANY porsche besides the Cayenne SUV are shared with any Volkswagen on todays models? There is a reason why cars like Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, Porsche, and ect. are status symbols and cost they way they do. Its called heritage, and proven performance... I will agree cars like the Corvette, Viper, and GT40 lack a lot of the prestige a true sportcar should have because of the badge, but their performance proves otherwise- they just appeal to a different type of person... It all comes down to passion and the emotions the car gives you to justify driving or owning ANYTHING prestigeous. If you wouldent feel any different about driving a GTO or a Ferarri, id guess that means you buy all generic brand groceries, because, clearly, they both are one in the same...

Erm. No.

Not really.

Modern Lambos are AWD. And not carbon.

Everything prior to that (with the exception of the Diablo VT) was a huge V12 in the middle, RWD and conventional body panels.

A diablo is not a light car. A six litre V12 thumping out well over 500bhp makes short work of the mass though.

An Elise is a light car. A McLaren F1 is a (very) light supercar.

A Diablo is from the planet Rockstar™. And is fabulous. And will cook a 6K clutch if you pull away incorrectly. I still want one.

I'm fully aware (well not fully but very aware) of the amount of engineering that goes into cars, half my friends are in mech eng for automotives, and despite their design a built up japanese car would run circles around a diablo (91-97ish), a friend of a friend has one and unless you've been inside one you can't really speculate about the handling, sure they're rockets but they'd be left in the dust handling wise by a good rwd japanese car, furthermore, lambos are anything but refined, before audi came into the picture they were a joke when it came to refinment, sit inside an old one and you'll know what i mean

no, its not a cobra engine, its a 5.4l. cobra is 4.6l

5.4l DOHC supercharged, aluminum block.

of course its based on the gt40, but its not the same car, at all. to say so is pure ignorance.

whats this $15k chevelle got in it to make it superior to a ferrari/lambo/prosche
