UMm i got the JL audio 500/1 add in the manual it requires that if mounted, there should be at least an inch and a 3 quarters from the overhead view of the amp, and all around except the bottom, and i guess the amp shouldnt be in direct sunlight so thats all i can think of

I dont know, sounds like your running your amp and too low of a Ohm level, or its just a amp prone to overheat. You can do what I did with my jensen (POS amp but went threw hell and back) cross drill both of the sides of the amp that unscrew and mount like 4 CPU fans in there, after I did that it got warm but never hot, or kicked off again.

get some rubber washers from the hard ware store. or like rubber plugs or something that are about an inch thick, and put them between the box and the amp so there is like an inch gap between the amp and the sub box so air can flow under there. it will help alot!

chick , your amp might not be over heating.. it can be that your ground wire is getting to hot, thats a common problem where people think their amps are over heating... check your ground wire see if its melted. it may be too thin. and you might have to put it n a diffrent spot.

even if you space it from the box it wont help that much because the circuit board would be on the top of the amp.
Ive got those fans that light up too, It just looked a little werid from my cross vents in the amp glowing different colors and humming. DTE -------------------- I am a thief.

its not the ground i went through that prob already when i go and touch the amp itself with the back of my hand it burns to where i cant stand it. i am using 4 gauge wire i think. so i think that is enough and i can touch the + and - wires and they are normal temp. i went to mtx website and it said having the gain set up wrong could make it overheat. how exactly do you tune it. i think i got it pretty close to perfect but maybe not.

what, that does not make sence. unless you wire it up weird or something, you should wire it up so that the positive (+) or the amp goes to the positive input on one of the subs coils, then the negative of that goes to the positive on the other coil then that negative goes to the negative on the amp, i really dont think that you got a real anser, sounds like bs to me.
I use to have all 3 of my audiobahn 10s (single coil) each with a 600 watt (250 rms i think) and the amps where hidden (fully coverd and wedged together) in the wheel well under the trunk, they never overheated (probilby would aventualy but it never happend when I had em) so unless your amp is really cheap (witch mine where, mtx's are not the best but there not bad) overheating is just not gana happen like that withough a wireing problem. -------------------- ![]() |

not trying to be mean but you get what you pay for.....I know MTX isnt the cheapest but its pretty low on the scale when you could have probably saved alot of money.......I bought 3 10" audiobahns allready in box brand spakin new off the show room floor for 150 and paid 100 for my amp........oh yeah.....did you get a decent wiring kit like streetwires or did you go to your local walmart?
