i just installed an in dash dvd (professionally)..

but the guy who installed it said that its illeagle for them to NOT install the safty feature ... the one where you cant watch dvds while driving...

so... i was wondering if any of you guys knew how to disable the feature..

i know it has to do something about grounding a wire out.,.. but how?

any help would be great.. and thanks!!

I can't remember, but I think our e-brake setups are negative trigger, meaning the wire under the console that connects to the e-brake gives ground when the e-brake is ground. If that's the case and they tapped into that wire, just ground the wire coming from your head unit. There was a thread about this a while ago I think. A search will find it, and there's probably a lot more information in it.

yea i replied to a similar thread a long time ago. i connected that wire to one of the wires going to the clock. i forgot which one though. if you touch the wire to open end (the one that goes into the clock) u could easily find out which one.

depens on which headunit, apline u cant just ground, because it looks for a paulsating ground. and you cant 100% for an Avic-N2 because it uses nav to sense when ur drving so it turns off dvd feature. but most yes, you just ground the parking break wire

You could also fry your head unit, which wouldn't be very cool. I would never just randomly touch wires together to find one that works. Always test with a multimeter.

i have the alpine iva-d901 (quite possibly THE best in dash dvd player there is wink.gif )

but neways... yeah... there is a green wire right under my e-brake.. so all i need to do is geound that wire and ill be good to go?.. ill just ground it to the cigarete lighter if thats the case...

edit - when im parked and put the e brake down -- it works , but once i pull it up.. it dosnt..

i think the green wire is the ground

hey i am new on here, but i know my fair share of celica info. =) madmods is right, if your dvd player is an alpine, there are manual video bypass switches you can purchase on ebay. They are compatible with all of the CVA, IVA, TME and TMX models. look into them, they are going for about 8 bucks right now.

wire the handbrake cable to the negative power supply feed on the harness on the back of the player works fine with mine!
