People buy V8's for power. Look at it like this. You have 20k. You can buy a newer Camaro z-28 that will run easy 13's-12's, OR, you could buy an older import and make huge power out of the small engine and run 13's or 12's. Now. You have a reliable camaro big power car, or you have an old import with a transmition that wants to explode and an engine producing power it was not made to handle. Which one will last?
If I wanted big power, I'd get a V8(non-mustang) But for looks and funfactor, you gotta love compacts. |

Ya know, i really don't know??
Thats weird, cause i have 3 Stangs. I just like them cause i grew up with Mustangs. I know the older ones are the best IMO. My 67 fastback has the 390 in it, my 67 coupe has a 6 cylinder in it right now(built up 289 on the way) and my 68 vert has an origional 302. -------------------- Jared Harwell

But to bring a FF car into the 13's area, it would take more than a stock 3s. And if you did too much more you would need some crazy traction control or you would just sit on the line and spin. Like I said. For a complete car I'd rather have a compact, but for speed a V8 is just plain better. (I'm speaking in terms of the straight line and top end.)

I can understand why people go V-8....they handle the power so much better than most 4 cylinders ever could, and they dont whine under the abuse. Its all about balls, i would love to have an old car with a V-8, theyre engines beg for more every time you lay on it.
Look at it this way for example......who would win in a tug of war, a short little muscular guy on steroids pushing himself to the brink of collapsing, or 2 dozen little girls that hardly have to try?? ![]() -------------------- 3rd gen ST205 3SGTE - Alive and boosting. |

I love compact cars with 4 bangers, but they will never truly be able to match what an 8-cylinder is capable of. they can take alot more abuse and have capability for crazy amounts of torque. I would take a car with any 300-400 series engine over a 4 cylinder. Especially a Lingenfelter 427.
There's not many good cars that have a good v8's in them besides older camaros, and Corvette Stingray 67-69, and the newest c5 and z06 vettes(z06's blow just a slightly built up LS1 engine renamed LS6, for the money C5 is definitely better, and has more aftermarket parts) just my $0.02 |

I love compacts too, but nothing compares to the way a nicely tuned v-8 purrs.

well, the only classic kind of car that I like is a GTO 67-69. God they are sexy. I got pissed that they had to put it in the XXX disaster. But I guess it really just goes back to pepsi vs. coke; the factors of which you were raised on and what your tastes are.

-hahahha stock 98-up Camaro SS has 320hp in it's basic trim (before dealer extras) -those Camaros (98-up) come with "LS1 engine" which is pulled from Corvette -Vortech/Edelbrock (supercharger/internals) have a packages for either SS or Z28 (because they have same engine, Z28 doesn't have ram-air so it's rated at 305hp) Package 1 ($5000 - MSRP with Install @ $70/hour shop rate) -around 500 whp Package 2 ($8000 - MSRP with Install @ $70/hour shop rate) -around 750 whp Package 3 and up are not street legal I'm sorry but no 4- banger can keep up either in Stock/Modified trim with LS1 engine have seen Camaros/Corvettes in about 900hp |

I don't understand why some people hate on V8s. Seems to me it must be a phenomenon concoted by civic owners to justify their underpowered four-bangers. Even in Japan, the home of the economy 4cyl, theres a lot of respect for the American V8. They might not be as technologically advanced as an RB26DET or what have you, but power is power. I give mad props to any enthusiast who takes the time to improve their ride, whether it be V8, I4 or any other variation. My 2 cents...

Alot of the V-8's are driven by old people because they don't have to press on the accelerator that hard for it to go a normal speed. I would love to see just once an old woman flooring her Crown Vic down the highway, but I probably will never have the pleasure.

A 240 with a small block and proper suspension are the best race cars there are. They've got perfect 50-50 weight distribution. |
