I need an alarm for my vert and was thinking about going with the Crime Guard 745i4 from Crutchfield.com. Two questions, is anyone familiar with this alarm if its good or not, at least for convertibles since it has the motion sensor for top down security? And is the price good, which is $199

I'm not personally familiar with crime guard, but I heard they are not bad. I would recommend any alarm DEI makes such as viper, hornet, clifford to name a few. Your most important feature on a convertible is called a proximity sensor also known as a radar sensor. It detects movement. So if anybody puts their hands in your car, it goes off. I also recommend hood pin locks and to cut the cable going to the trunk or use a solenoid to open it instead. An extra siren or piezo (pain generator) siren is a good ideal on the inside of your car. Alarms are covered quite a bit on these forums so use the search. Theres good reading on there. Find Coomer's ultimate alarm posts.

I have a hornet from DEI. It has a pager alarm which i really like and a fuel cut off feature. So even if they get in the car, theyre not going anywhere.

what i was told is that u can put a proximity sensor with just about any alarm you choose

a buddy of mine does tons and tons of installs for alarms and stereo, and told me that unless i wanted to pay prolly like 800 bucks for an alarm install that chances are the proximity sensor will never work like it should...

i just got a regular alarm, no proximity sensor, because of the fact that i probably wont be leaving the top down when im not near the car, and even if i did have an alarm that allowed me to, i still wouldn't trust people to leave it down when im not within eye sight...
